That's a tough call.

I would have to say Missing You by John Waite.

"Missing You" is my preference. I also think it has lived on to a greater degree than "Sunglasses at Night."

I always thought "Sunglasses at Night" sounded too much like "Sweet Dreams" by Eurythmics.

But then, it was also pointed out to me that "Missing You" sounds a lot like "Every Breath You Take." I couldn't believe I hadn't noticed that.

While "Sunglasses" is an essential 80's song, I think "Missing You" is a better song, so I choose "Missing." I think John Waite and Allison Krauss covered the song in the 2000's.

I'm going to co-sign on namepeace's statement. SAN seemed to have a bigger impact in 80s music, but Waite's angry lament is better songwriting. Tina Turner covered that song during her Wildest Dreams period. It was wonderful.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

both are amazing and favourites from time, but I think sunglasses at night is more popular and still referenced often in pop culture

I love both equally, can't choose just one. Missing You is a timeless classic and Sunglasses is a period piece though.

I vote for Sunglasses because I used to like this song about 10 years ago- https://www.youtube.com/w...EpAeSj504c

Sunglasses at Night is a more powerful and vibrant song and gets my vote.

Missing You may have spawned a clutch of lesser imitations, but the master/original is narrowly above a mediocre song. Pleasant and forgetble, but well crafted. It reminds me of the impact of Lenny Kravitz' Again which is one nice bridge short of being exactly the same level of song.

I like both but "Missing You" gets my vote.
