And The Band Plays On: The Life Story Of Larry Dodson Of The Bar-Kays Larry Dodson has a new book out now detailing his life with the band, drug and personal problems, interactions and friendships with fellow industry stars, and what led to his decision to retire from the band as lead singer after 47 years. It's a very good read. I ordered the book directly from the band's website and saved 7 dollars as opposed to ordering from Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Larry D autographed my copy. Even though Larry is hanging it up in December the band will continue to tour in 2018 with a new lead singer handpicked by him and James Alexander and Larry will still be involved with the band behind the scenes. Don't laugh at my funk

Incredibly versatile as well as overlooked and unappreciated vocalist.

This book was a quick read, I like that Larry admitted that the producer, Allen Jones, had them mimic some of those hits for they're own cuts. I knew I was hearing an EWF, Commodores influence on those late 70's cuts and Rick James, Midnight Star influence of some of those 80's cuts.
Overall it was a good bio, Bar-Kays and funk fans should give it a read! [Edited 10/9/17 18:27pm]

I don't want to give too many details away for those whose want to read for themselves but there was one other very interesting tidbit about Allen Jones that I didn't know. There's also interesting tidbits about their fellow industry mates and what Satch of the Ohio Players tried to get the Barkays to do. Don't laugh at my funk
