Sinead O'Connor Interview Tuesday

Sinead will be on the season premiere of Dr. Phil, September 12, 2017. It's a pre-taped interview in her home or somewhere besides the studio. They were using "Nothing Compares 2 U" in the background. I've seen adverts for the interview over the past couple of weeks. Dr. Phil often has a soft launch of a new season, airing new shows for the first couple of weeks of September before the official launch, which is Sept 12 this year. They've been building up to it since the 1st. Should be interesting.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I'm with you on this. She is such an easy target and her own worst enemy sad to say.

Really that should be two less viewers then. We don't get Dr Phil here, but i read about his Duvall interview. Bloke sounds like a real exploitative wanker.

And here's the thing - I don't think they set out to do an exploitive interview with Shelley. Shelley is in really rough shape, and I wish she had gotten some help. Despite all of Phil's flaws, he is connected with some of the best rehab and diagnosis centers in the United States. They could have really helped her with some things and given her options on handling her own treatment.

All that aside, I think Phil should have possibly either had the interview re-edited, or decided to not show it at all. It was very heartbreaking to see her in such an altered mental state. The paranoia and delusions were severe, IMO.

The one thing I worry about with Sinead is that while she does suffer from depression and possibly bi-polar disorder, I also feel like sometimes she has a rather dramatic streak in her when she talks about her life. I think she might emphasize things more than they should be simply for the attention and wow-factor of it to others. It makes me doubt some elements of her story without dismissing it as a whole. I believe that she battles with something but I hope she doesn't magnify what is already big - or what doesn't need any magnification - just for the sake of a good tale.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

You think she magnifies things? I think we know she blows things up. Like saying Prince had demon eyes or that Arsenio Hall was a drug dealer. All things that the mainstream press had no problem printing. Part of the problem is that people take her comments seriously which only encourages her to continue. I also blame her family for even allowing the media access to her.

How is being on this show going to get her treatment? It is exploitation at its worst. I wonder who is going to accused of having demon eyes.

Yeah, so did Dr. Phil earlier.

In general, I do have a new respect for her. She was never a favorite of mine. She was just annoying. But she really was ahead of the curve with challenging the Catholic church. She mentioned that they knew, in Ireland, that the church was sexually abusing children (mostly boys) well before the stories and investigations hit the United States. I certainly thought she was just a scorned Catholic (like so many) until I realized she was just telling the truth about that.

As far as her abuse, etc., just horrible. It reminded me a bit of Darrell Hammond's (from Saturday Night Live) book God, If You're Not There, I'm Fucked memoir about his extreme child abuse at the hands of his mother, including a knife in the tongue. Phil says this a lot, that I don't wonder why she's doing the things she's doing, I wonder why not.

She seemed desperate and open to getting help. The OnSite facilities in the U.S. are premier places that have dual diagnosis capabilities. They examine a person physically with brain scans etc because of substance abuse, and mentally with counseling, etc. That sort of examination helps in finding the exact medication not just based on mental or outward signs, if any meds are needed at all, to treat the person. And she seemed to like Dr. Phil for a long time so that makes her even more open to the help he's setting up through OnSite.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

She largely blames them as well, past and present, although she also admits she is very difficult to be around.

Currently it's the staff in her treatment centre. I think she's willing to try anything at this point. Ah god, the poor woman, it's not looking great.

Someone with serious mental issues that the media needs to stop exploiting.
