Patti LaBelle's BMI Tribute: Performers forgot the words All Gospel ICON BeBe Winans & Gospel newcomer Tasha Cobbs had to do was show up to rehearsal and try to Nail ONE of Patti's songs. They struggled on stage and ad-libbed....I will cut them a little bit of slack...Every Singer should know that when you forget the words during a performance you continue Singing for your Life...You should NEVER-EVER have an "Adele Moment"......"Let's start this Song over one mo'gain, I forgot the words, I'm British..".....That's a No-No....Had Adele tried that at Harlem's Apollo Theater they would have told her to Sit down...
Back to the Tribute....I was very impressed with Avery Sunshine's cover of "Love, Need and Want you"....It is not a difficult song to sing and a really Good singer can do all kinds of things with it..Avery gave the crowd Voice & Confidence..She came ready...
Our Girl Ledisi knows she can put her signature Stamp on just about any Damn song...She sang "Lady Marmalade" like she been singing it all her Life...BUT....The BMI audience was not feeling her one bit, they were practically silent...I was like, come on ATL y'all know Great Singing when you hear it, show the Woman some Love...Ledisi's voice is out of this Galaxy and her gorgeous legs are the 8th Wonder of the World...
You can see clips of the performances on Youtube...

I have no idea why Ledisi gets so much haterade from the music industry. Maybe it is because she was told she would never make it and went on head to be successful. Who knows? |

Or maybe people in the industry dont react to Ledesi because she doesnt have a long, blonde weave and she doesnt have to go on stage half naked to perform dance routines to shield the fact she is only an average singer.

^ That is pretty much the reason. Black female singers have to sexually exploit themselves in order to be successful. Ledisi is pure class and pure talent. I also think the industry currently suffers from racism and tokenism. It seems like they only want one Black female singer at the top. I am glad Ledisi is still going strong, it was messed up how she was dogged a couple of years ago at the Grammys. They should have asked Fantasia to perform at this tribute. Fanny is ALWAYS a MUST at ANY Patti Tribute! [Edited 9/10/17 16:03pm] |

all true... especially the part about Fantasia... funny you mentioned both, because my favorite Ledisi joint, "Higher Than this", sounds like it could be a Fantasia song...like Ledisi borrowed Fannie's vocal style for a 3-minutes and made a smash record with it, and gave it back... |

Loved how you did that I love them because they are sangers and they take you to church and throw down. |
