Why Metallica can do this but all what MJ issues are compilations??

Easy answer: They ain't trying to put THAT much money and material into one release lol

They've been pretty good on not putting out compilations since he's passed, considering Number Ones and The Essential Michael Jackson still sell (Essential is at #113 on the Billboard 200), but it's obvious his estate have been more focused on casual consumers (although the people who bought the previous releases were mostly the hardcore fans, who have been critical since jump for good reason)

Since he's died, we've seen:
This Is It which they could've put more effort into
Michael- no comment
Immortal- simple tie in to the Vegas show
Bad 25- could've been better but an improvement
Xscape

Off The Wall (just the CD and the Spike Lee documentary)

not to mention the DVDs. You'd think with Michael and what fans and other consumers have been asking for, it would be easy to decide on what to put out

-2 CD sets of unreleased songs, demos, and alternate takes

-Blu Ray collection of all his videos remastered

-Blu ray releases of Thriller (I assume that's coming this year) and Ghosts
-Releases of the Destiny, Triumph, Victory, Bad, and Dangerous tours

-Expanded/super deluxe editions of the solo and Jacksons albums

-The classical album he was putting together

-An album of the songs he was working on when he passed

but instead...we get "Scream" and remixes with Timbaland and Pitbull

They got money up the wazoo to put out some realy good product from Michael Jackson! I did like Bad 25 release and Xscape alot actually. Off The Wall could have been better but at least the DVD was great.

Otherwise, not sure why they have not capitalized on all of his albums recieving some treatment. A History re-release, Dangerous 25, Moonwalker BlueRay, Captain Eo remaster DVD, all the jackson albums remaster with demos...so much they can do!!!

I also don't understand why he's become some kind of a Halloween icon? Just because of Thriller? It just cheapens his legacy and contributions to music. Like he's a novelty act.

Thriller. The 45-minute Ghosts movie. I don't think he's ever been a Halloween icon; he's just had a song that people played a lot on Halloween. He has delved into fantasy beyond those two things with Moonwalker and Captain EO as well. It makes sense to highlight that part of him that loved spooky stories or fantasy elements in his music. But no - I don't believe he's ever been considered as just a Halloween icon.

All that aside - it is just another compilation. Meh.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I agree this compilation is pointless. But even more relieved to hear people don't see him as a Halloween novelty act, for crying out loud.

Moonwalker is on blu ray. I showed you on Facebook when my copy came in the mail lol

someone on MattyJam's forum compared what the estate and sony has put out to what what released the deaths of Lennon, Elvis, Sinatra, Queen, George Harrison, Johnny Cash, and James Brown and it put things in perspective.

In the 8 years since his death, the estate has put out 2 documentaries, a soundtrack/greatest hits package, a movie, a remix/mashup album in Immortal, 2 re-releases, 2 albums of unreleased music, a DVD set of most of his videos, collaborated on a video game series, re-released his autobiography, and now remastering and re-releasing Thriller and Making of Thriller (it premiered in Toronto today), and a digital compilation of non-album tracks.

oh and the Bad re-released featured unreleased songs, a live album and a concert DVD. That's A LOT

If Dangerous were to get the anniversary, numbers may not be sufficient enough. Given that the story was retold regarding its legacy and how outside the US including Canada he was massive and had iconic pop culture moments for the next overall generation, and the good that came out of it during the era musically outside the controversies. Not just fan accounts but general public accounts recapturing the era and giving more validity to the re release. Also this would entail bringing to light the fact nevermind did knock dangerous off number one but there's more to that story statistically. Enough accounts are needed from a different angle than what was done for Quincy era albums being profiled to invest in commomerrations of dangerous

I don't even know why this is considered so significant. I guess because of what it "represents" but Dangerous wouldn't have stayed at #1 forever anyways. Dangerous ended up selling 32 million copies while Nevermind sold 30 million, so I am at a loss trying to understand why this point is always cited as some groundbreaking zeitgeist shift (not saying you were doing that, just speaking generally).

not to mention a week later, Garth Brooks pushed it from #1 while Dangerous jumped from #5 to #2. Nirvana ended up being #4 behind Hammer

I bought it, and PROUDLY proclaim it!!! I am loving having all of these songs on one album and having been listening non-stop. Especially Heartbreak Hotel, Torture, Threatened, Someone's Watching Me, etc. Damn, I'm enjoying listening to all of them. I'm loving it and this new mash-up video is giving me goosebumps. It's that good.

What would they put on Dangerous 25 that we haven't heard yet? Mediocre unfinished Bryan Loren tracks?

1. Someone Put Your Hand Out

2. Monkey Business

3. She Got It

5. If You Don't Love Me

7. Serious Effect (feat. LL Cool J)

8. Work That Body

They also can put out a disc of the video edit versions (7" versions) or any extended versions. History on the making of the album....re-release of the Dangerous Video Collection on Blue Ray

You forgot :

.

9. JOY

10. For all time

Just to clarify For All Time is already on Thriller 25 when it was released in 2008, years and I have that album.

Mercifully just one remix on this and it is quite short. Otherwise I bought mainly as it is a Michael Jackson release and he is up there with Prince in my world, any official or official sounding release and I buy it, no matter how mediocre or repeated it may be.

.

I agree though, the remixes on Bad 25 and Xscape are true shite. I feel sorry for anyone who bought the standard edition of Xscape with the remixes on it only.

I actually liked most of the remixes better than the originals especially Chicago, Blue Gangsta and Lovin' You. Gave those songs fresh sound and new air. They didnt sound like demos anymore.
