Rami Malek IS Freddie Mercury!

So people's eyebrows were raised when it was announced that Mr. Robot's Rami Malek would be portraying legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

Here's a first look of Malek as Freddie Mercury.

What do you think?

I love me some Rami Malek. I think his acting in Mr Robot is beyond amazing.

Let's wait and see if this will be a triumph a la Walk the Line and Ray or a flop... like every other music biopic in the last 5 years lol

LOVE Freddie forever and love the idea of this film. I hope the finished product is cohesive and beautiful regardless of box office sales. Any news regarding if they be using Freddie's singing voice? Truly one of a kind.

Straight Outta Compton (2015) is the highest grossing music biopic ever and the New Edition miniseries (2017) on BET got high ratings. Don't sound like flops to me. NE's movie was so popular, BET is going to film a Bobby Brown solo biopic.

I'm sure Mika is begging to do it. His debut single was basically an audition lol

Rami Malek is a great actor--not the worst choice in the world. In fact, he may be a very good choice.

Well, if that photo is an inclination of what the movie will be like, it may be good, because he's got the look and stance down pat!

Hopefully they do right by Freddie. He was a legend, gifted talent and unique man. I pray they do not sensationalize his story or his death. The actor looks like Freddie and embodies him well in the photo.

You really can't tell anything from the angle on that photo. Hell, even I would look like Freddie Mercury from that angle with a fake moustache.

Is this for a Playstation 4 game about Queen?
The photo almost looks like a picture from a game lol

Yes, that photo is probably a composite "direction" they wish to go with the part.

Several photos including fake album mock ups have been posted to Bryan Singer's instagram.

I hope this guy's portrayal is great for the film's sake... cause as I've joked here and on Queenzone.com (long standing Queen website with nearly as much bickering and in fighting etc....but with occassional spamming due to poor moderation)

...As I was saying... as I've been joking. The last photo I'd seen (GREATEST HITS ALBUM VOL I mock up)... was pretty frightening.

Rami Malek makes it look as if STEWIE from FAMILY GUY time traveled and took over the Life of Freddie Mercury.

I still can't get past his Vag-Eyes... they're kinda scary.

In a non gay way, Freddie was a pretty good looking dude....his eyes were actually very exotic looking....in a non Froggy way.

But I'm glad they did cast a legit actor. SBC would've probably been in it for the risque value and for being the first dude to portray a hedonistically gay lifestyle on the big screen...rather than any human factor.

Hopefully it's either really great, or horribly horribly bad in a jokey sort of way that can be enjoyed for future generations. I DO have great concerns that the band is likely going to end the story at LIVE AID... which is completely fucking absurd, and ignores the unfortunate but incredibly serious conditions FM faced in his latter years, up to his death. Ignoring this is not revisionist, but it is ludicrious. I guess the idea would be to present a film that doesn't focus on Freddie's life.

But being that QUEEN didn't technically "End" until Nov 24th 1991... why they'd ignore the following FINAL TOURS and in particular FINAL ALBUM (INNUENDO) is beyond me....as a drama, how much more extravagant and sensational could one's life be?

i'VE still gotta say.... he looks better than this guy pretending to be Sammy Sosa...

So is this the same film about Queen that Sasha Baron Cohen was first supposed to star in ?

I would have loved to see him play a serious role. And he looks the part, too.

[list]
the very same film.

Proposed several years ago. Numerous iterations and various directors attached to it. Filming began last Friday. There's a daily motion video already out showing helicopter footage and a bit of what's hopefully rehearsal for the LIVE AID bit.

Rami unfortunately looks a bit like a caricature. Hopefully he pulls this off without looking like a parody. It might feature a new soundtrack by Brian and Rog with Marc Martel (who is apparently being sourced for proper state of the art vocal 7,8.1, whatever/IMAX etc). Cause they surely can't be loaning anybody elses fingers to portray Brian and the Red Special while he's still kicking very fiercely

I heard that he dropped out because Freddy would die half way in the movie and the second half of the movie would focus on teh remaining members and how they went on as Queen. SBC didn't like that idea and said nobody was interested in that kind of story.

Brian May said something else and said that SBC was dropped for being a arrogant asshole and hard to work with lol

I think you're actually putting words into Brian's mouth (*or out of) or mixing stories. Cohen stated on Howard Stern that it was difficult working with one of the band members (*it was implied it was Brian) and later Brian issued a statement saying that Cohen was lying and exaggerating details; that the band really felt that at the end of the day, HIS involvement would become too much of a distraction from the material (in audiences minds) implying that it might be taken as a credible role.

I think the reality is somewhere in between. The band probably wants a more sanitized film and from what I've heard, it WILL not focus on the band beyond 1984/85 which i feel is pretty absurd. Yet, for the respect of their friends and companion Freddie Mercury....i don't think they want to delve into his illness and debilitating condition. That would likely require an EPIC film...hitting the 3 hour mark, and likely would feel undignified by the band's POV. This would be the only reason i can think that they'd avoid his condition in later years

U must b kidding.

Prince: Lithe, supple, short, agile, amazing voice, "ethnic" look, graceful

Cohen: Bulky, Tall, Hoarse, Terrible acting (the only thing he matches Prince with), Terrible voice, unfunny, graceless.

Mike Myers is also slated to be in the film. A tribute to a tribute no doubt.

My guess is that he'll portray Roy Thomas Baker.....

THEN(far right)

queen-with-ian-hunter-of-mott-the-hoople-and-music-producer-roy-thomas-baker-at-the-montreal-forum-26th-january-1977.jpg

NOW (ish)

music-producer-roy-thomas-baker-arrives-at-musicmoguls-first-music-picture-id89873125?s=594x594

and if it doesn't go that way (great casting)...then ....err... He'll portray Zandra Rhodes lol

but, in all likelihood, it'll be Mike Myers as Roy Thomas Baker.

This would further solidify his ties to BoRhap's continued success. As RTB was the original producer of 5 or their first 7 albums. I can envision a scene with Freddie going from studio to studio with his ideas (Bo Rhap).

Just makes sense. ☺ biggrin

I don't know exactly who said what I'm just relaying what I heard. By no means did I mean they actually said that.

Insider information: I've just found out that the film will break conventional "casting discrimination"....and will feature SNL alumn, Jon Lovitz as friend/partgoer/former film personality BARBARA VALENTIN.

Personally, I think this casting is INSPIRED!.

And with regard to gender discrimination....It's about time!

I'm sooo looking forward to this!
