She seems to be taking the Mariah route. She's had "contemporary" tunes on her last handful of solo albums. Like Mimi, I guess she figures at this point in her career, she can do what she wants. I miss the classy Chante also. I'm looking forward to the new album next month but I hope she doesn't totally abandon her core audience.

I'll have to listen to the album before I buy it.Hopefully,there will be some tunes that are reminiscent of the first two albums....warm,soulful and quiet-storm-ish.

That's before the HipHop R&B singers appeared. The over-saturation of "Pillow Talk R&B" back then allowed for the rise of HipHop R&B", "LTO" is special.

It's like a fine wine...

I think "Love's Taken Over" influenced Mr. Nelson's "Symbol" CD and Jam & Lewis's production of "That's The Way Love Goes".

I wonder if she is on some stuff in The Vault, but her producer struck gold-genius with that song.

I'd guess she uses it in conversation as a greeting like many black people do. I've heard people saying it to each other my whole life - in school, the neighborhood, and different relatives. I don't think she'd just say it randomly in songs and not any other time. I don't think it has anything to do with reaching a young audience either. Richard Pryor said it in his comedy records in the 1970s and it was said a lot in Blaxploitation movies. They weren't trying to reach teens. Even Stevie Wonder said it in a few songs in the early 1970s.

She peaked with "A Love Supreme". Beautiful from beginng to end. I believe I recall on her episode of Unsung that it didn't sell as well as her debut, which really surprised me because "Old School Lovin" was all over the radio and they were playing a lot of the album cuts on stations here in Michigan.

A Love Supreme is heavenly a truly wonderful album.It seems that her record company and management didn't really know how to market and promote her.That album should have been a massive success.

I'm down for tunes that talk grown folks talk with some degree of sense, but if this new record is going to be more of the recent same, I'll pass, and watch concert clips of her oldies on YouTube.
