I just wanna know if MJ took in any of Prince's shows back in the day. He's definitely right in saying alot of his music likely coincided with a lot of memories for him. Prince played the Carmichael Auditorium in Chapel Hill, NC during the "1999" Tour and Mike's sophomore year at UNC. Around the same time he was winning the gold medal in the '84 Olympics in L.A., "Purple Rain" exploded.

I thought Michael Jordan liked Anita Baker, so Prince would possibly be in his wheel house. I think he is more 70, 80's more than modern stuff, correct me if I am wrong. I am half remembering something I read once. I could very well be wrong.

Yeah, he was more of a jazz, contemporary R&B listener. Whitney and Anita were a couple of his favorites. He liked some of the early hip-hop of the 80's and as well.

* And, he appears in Michael Jackson's "Jam" video along with Heavy D. So, yeah, he's problably a late 70s through mid-90s type of music listener.

Michael Jordan: 'Prince Was a Genius'"His impact not just on music, but on culture, truly can't be measured," MJ says of the late music icon
It shouldn't surprise you to learn that Michael Jordan was a huge Prince fan – after all, both men are all-time greats in their respective fields, and as the saying goes, "Game recognize game."
So as the world continues to mourn the death of the Minneapolis music icon, Jordan weighed in with a tribute of his own, saying that Prince was an inspiration throughout his career. Furthermore, Jordan told TMZ that Prince's music reminds him of so many moments in his life – and we all know there are plenty of memorable ones to choose from – in addition to calling him "a genius." "Like so many people I am shocked at the news that Prince has died," Jordan said. "In a world of creative performers, Prince was a genius. His impact not just on music, but on culture, truly can't be measured. His songs inspired me throughout my career and remind me of so many moments from my life."

And he also likes P's Music: Michael Jordan: Prince's songs 'inspired me throughout my career'The greatest player in NBA history was greatly impacted by the music of legendary musician Prince, who died Thursday at the age of 57. Michael Jordan, a six-time NBA champion and owner of the Charlotte Hornets, told TMZ Sports that Prince's songs "inspired me throughout my career and remind me of so many moments from my life."
"Like so many people I am shocked at the news that Prince has died. In a world of creative performers, Prince was a genius," Jordan said. "His impact not just on music, but on culture, truly can’t be measured. "His greatness will live on through his music, but this is a sad day for his fans - me included. My thoughts go out to his family and friends." Considering how dominant Jordan was during his heyday, crediting Prince's music as being inspiring to him is truly high praise.
