It's going to be in Minneapolis, right? How about not having any particular headline act and just have The Time, The Revolution with Andre Cymone and Sheila E perform a final Prince tribute. If it were up to me, that's what I'd choose. Failing that, I'd go for Bruce Springsteen or Guns N'Roses.

But I bet they'll end up going for someone like Ariana Grande...

NOBODY remembers that P-Funk has already played the Super Bowl halftime show?

.

It was a while ago, but it happened. I think with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and maybe somebody else. Snoop?

.

As much as I love P-Funk - and as much as I love that they hit the stage jamming "Alice In My Fantasies" - they were not that great. As someone put it, when you have 5 minutes to make an impression, you better spend some time in the interplanetary rehearsal studio. They were not very together. Duiring a 4 hour show you can eventually get it together, they just ran out of time.

Without a doubt, the BEST CHOICE would be the reunited (mostly) GUNS N ROSES!!!!! I just saw them live in Miami last week and they were absolutely amazing and played for over 3 hours to a packed stadium!

Another awesome choice would be Metallica who has also been playing sold out stadiums across The world with their incredible live show (I had the pleasure of seeing them in July!).

Of course, they'll probably pick some crap like Justin Bieber or Rihanna.

Well there you have it, Snoop Dogg and Carol Channing 2017.

Since you want acts that are currently popular on the charts, Shania Twain ain't it. lol That would be Drake, Enrique Iglesias, DJ Khaled, Maroon 5, G Eazy, Romeo Santos, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, SZA, Post Malone, Florida George Line, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Adele, Future, Bruno Mars, Luke Bryant, Childish Gambino, Daddy Yankee, Taylor Swift, etc.

All of those would be awesome.

As much as i love Dylan, having him would be the most boring Superbowl performance ever.

Chance The Rapper has a Kit Kat commercial that I see a lot and he was invited to the White House by Obama. So he might have a shot as far as newer acts are concerned. It was Lady Gaga this year, so they'll probably go with a male act next year.

Since it is in MN, they need to replay the greatest SB performance ever, which was Prince's. And light up everything Purple!!! Maybe it should be the tribute bands with Prince's performance on the back screen.

It'll probably be Rihanna with special guest Drake making an appearance nuts

Some artists/bands who should be considered:

Hall and Oates
Santana
Journey
Stevie Wonder

or how about a Motown-themed halftime show? Bring out Smokey Robinson and maybe a special guest from the Motown label (The Temptations? The Four Tops?)

I can see Pitbull being asked since he seems to show up everywhere and he makes party music.

They need to put an end to these performers doing these half time shows because they are overwhelming the actual game which is getting more off kilter by the year

and the commercials are getting bad too, they dont' know what to do

and after these performances full of pyrotechnics, the smoke fills the air space for the entire 3rd quarters..

They should feature local high school bands, let them get some shine for a change, and put the focus on the football being played...

NFL ratings dipped last year and they're gonna dip again this year

I suggested that a couple of years ago on my FB page. The NFL will sell it's soul to the devil

for ratings. We saw the NFL's grandstand a few years ago with the gay player from the University

I agree with everything u said 150%....

the NFL has turned into political quagmire of sorts

the league is imploding and sinking right down that river...

The Who, Paul McCartney, Prince, Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and others who have done it in recent years haven't had hits in decades either. The Who haven't had a hit single since the late 70s or early 80s. They haven't even had any solo hits in a long time. The half time show has never really been about current hit records but general popularity. If that was the case they wouldn't have had Carol Channing do it several times.

BOOM...exactly...When my Patti LaBelle performed during the worst Halftime Show EVER she did not even sing Lady Marmalade....LOL...That Halftime gig is about Popularity and The Powers That Be like certain Artists...

Guns N' Roses. No question about that. But I guess they will come up with some other crap.

This ... totally this ... or the Foo Fighters.

Can't see the NFL going for it though. Since Janet-titty-gate they seem to be averse to anyone remotely 'controversial'.

Why they keep booking performers who, on the whole, most NFL fans have no interest in god only knows. Rock, rap/ hip hop, and country, I'm guessing that covers just about every NFL fan. But nope, here's Beyonce, Katy Perry, Madonna, etc ...

because they're not catering to fans of the nfl, they're catering to the whole world. it's usually the most watched television broadcast worldwide. they've got to book whoever is going to land the most eyeballs on their pepsi and bud light ads.

Well. I guess that's the reason why. To make people, who don't give 2 shits about that game, tune in and talk about it. The NFL fans will watch anyway. But really, it should be about those NFL fans.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense as a business strategy. Does seem like a slight insult to NFL fans who've followed the sport all year only to see the highlight event of their season hiijacked by fair weather "fans" who are only tuning in to see if Katy Perry pops out one of her baps (I'm guessing footie fans wouldn't actually mind that so much hahaha!)

I'm a UK based NFL fan myself (does it show?! biggrin ) but I guess I don't fit the stereotypical mould of an NFL fan music wise, my two all time faves being Madonna and Prince, as well as having very eclectic tastes across a range of genres. But even I feel bad when the half time show rolls around every year and its another pop starlet as opposed to someone who would actually cater to football fans tastes.

Those super bowl commercials crashed last year

What they should do for commercial time is show highlights of previous Super Bowls so the new fan watching can learn about the history of the league, the entire concept needs to be revamped

I agree with most of the points that have already been said here. I think the NFL needs to drastically change the formula of half time shows and performers. Its gotten way to political and favoritism (like most things these days) and more about money than about the game itself. Having pop stars do half time has been overkill and predictable. The NFL should celebrate football culture and everything that makes a football game. I think they should bring back the marching bands. They should let college marching bands do it and band dancers. This could be a great opportunity to highlight the best ones in the country. There are SO many talented and entertaining college marching bands that could do half time BUT since the NFL is requiring performers to pay a fee to perform that hinders the participation of colleges and highschools cause they won't be able to afford it. The Super Bowl has already made its clout in being must see television, regardless of who is performing at half time. I think right now would be a good time to change up their formula and make it more entertaining and less predictable.

The NFL has already asked Rihanna and Adele to do it and they both declined. With the amount of money performers have to pay JUST to perform, I don't blame them. A lot of people here may not like Justin Bieber but he IS the biggest male act out today alongside Adele as the biggest female act and he has the clout, hits and popularity to do the Super Bowl. If Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce and Gaga can do half time, I don't see why Bieber cant either, even Drake who is a big act now can do it too, of course Rihanna but again she has declined. I think she will eventually do it though.

I'd rather see a step show instead of a marching band
