Quinton Barnes - 7th Speaks Obsessed

Our own Orger, smoothcriminal12, has a new EP out entitled 7th Speaks Obsessed, and it's
pretty fucking good, if you ask me.

The Spotify link is above, and if the spirit moves you, you can cop the EP here. Yeah, I think it is
important to support our Org community, but Quinton's shit happens to be dope; it reminds me of
a less affected and unpretentious Miguel and homeboy has certainly paid attention to Michael Jack-
son and Prince as a vocalist.

Anyways, my favorite cuts are "Alright" and "To Your Guns".

What's the inspiration for this EP?

How do you write your tunes?

Where are you performing live so muahfuckers in Toronto can check you out?

So I was inspired by a few records - Off the Wall by MJ, Music of My Mind by Stevie, Channel Orange by Frank Ocean, Aladdin Sane by David Bowie, pretty much anything Prince since he died while I was working on it, and some of Janelle Monae's stuff.

When I'm writing I'll either have an idea in my head and record that into my phone (usually just music, but occasionally a melody line and some lyric) or I will deliberately sit down and start creating something. Once I have the initial idea the rest of the song starts to come together pretty seamlessly. Often I'll finish the entire instrumental and let it sit for a few months before writing the lyrics. I don't find lyrics harder, but I really do put a lot of thought into what I want to say and how the melody will sound. As a result I have about 4 albums I am in the process of writing lyrics for right now. lol

Haha, right now I'm organizing a few one off gigs to come in the next few months to promote a new record I'll have coming out soon. I'm not a steady gigger but I'm working on it. razz

It sounds like your process is like my own: I'll write the instrumental track first, and then write the
vocal melodies. And I work slowly but surely too. Do you often think to yourself: "How would Prince
have done this?" When I first started out writing my own tunes, in a serious manner, I often referred
to him more than I should have, I think in retrospect.

When you perform live, do you sing to tracks or do you have a live band?
