Rick Astley feat. Phil Collins, Howard Jones, Brian May, Mick Karn, & others ~ Never Gonna Give You Up You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton |

hahah what a great video.
One thing I've noticed about U.S. bands vs. British bands is that the Brits really do come together when it's needed, or rather they play together without prejudice. You'd never see Duff McKagan playing bass with The Weeknd, or Kirk Hammett playing rhythm guitar at a Maxwell gig. Did Neil Peart ever sit in with Nsync?
Queen is such a historic band, and they've had everyone from Adam fucking Lambert to Lisa Stansfield in front of them for any particular reason. And while there are those random put-togethers for otherwise boring award shows, I just never quite see the cross-pollination in a concert like you do with British bands. Granted, Slash played with MJ, and Eddie played with MJ, but..it was MJ.
Of course we've not seen a Kraftwerk and Rammstein get together either.
By the way, there is a video somewhere with a guy who sounds a lot like Rick. Rick invited him onstage to sing "Never Gonna Give You Up". I think the guy was Filipino, or something. It was a fun moment. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

Eddie Van Halen did a song with LL Cool J too. Joe Perry played on songs by Run-DMC, Nelly, & Pitbull and there was Public Enemy & Anthrax. Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers played bass on Young MC's Bust A Move. Some rock acts will perform with rappers and in recent years so have country singers. A symphony orchestra performed in a concert with Sir-Mix-A-Lot.

I believe Burt Bacharach met with Dr. Dre years back for drum machine ideas for his new album. [Edited 6/27/17 10:10am] |

A few more to consider:
Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald just did a song with Thundercat.
Tim McGraw collaborated with Nelly.
Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson performed together.
Prince collaborated with Janelle Monae.
Daryl Hall has collaborated with rappers including B-Legit and Wyclef Jean.

^^I don't think Janelle is a rapper, although she was discovered by OutKast. On his most recent releases, I think Nelly has stopped rapping and mostly does straight singing.

True, but TP raised the issue of cross pollenization across genres and not necessarily defined to hip-hop and rock/pop/country.
Janelle and Prince occupy some of the same musical territory, but a credited Prince appearance on another artist's album was rather uncommon so I included it.

In that case, Weird Al was in a Winans Christmas special with R. Kelly in the 1990s.
Paul Simon had a gospel concert in the 1980s with Luther Vandross, Mighty Clouds Of Joy, Oak Ridge Boys, Jennifer Holiday, Andrae Crouch & others. Paul also worked with other gospel acts in the 1970s like the Dixie Hummingbirds & Jessy Dixon and acts from Africa on the Graceland album & tour.
Bob Dylan did Street Rock with Kurtis Blow in the 1980s
Fat Boys did songs with Chubby Checker & Beach Boys
Donny Osmond sang background on songs by Chicago & Fishbone
Lionel Richie & Luther Vandross did background on a Richard Marx song and Lionel also worked with Rob Zombie.
George Benson sang with Lynda Carter
Garth Brooks, Herbie Hancock, and many others were on the Eddie Murphy song Yeah
