. I like their singles okay, but was never tempted to buy a studio album (just a singles compilation). My favourite of theirs is ,'Can't Stay Away From You': . . I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Finally the inspirational comeback from that terrible tour bus accident that broke her back and nearly killed her Gloria Estefan - Coming Out Of The Dark (The AMA's 1991) performance, what a legend

One of my guilty pleasures!
As a child, my family and I lived in Miami (Cutler Bay). Her sound meant as much to the Miami music scene as Prince's meant to Minneapolis. Miami radio was dominated by her music as well as the music of Madonna, Prince, Billy Ocean, Michael Jackson, etc in the time I lived there (1983-1989). The success of Gloria Estefan and the MSM always struck me as heavily regional because when we moved to Atlanta, there music was NEVER on the radio. No top 40 stations, no dance, nothing. Don't know if anyone else can vouch for that observation, but its what I experienced.
Favorite song is "Rythym is gonna get you" and I liked some her solo work to. She had a protege (Jon Secada) that blew up for a minute, then kind of vanished. Anyone know what happened to him? "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."
