Katy Perry - Witness Reviews

Rollings Stone

Fourth album Witness surfs on gentler throbs of house music and lets ballads smush into art-pop soup. It's all a perfect fit for a Hot 100 dominated by the subtle, nuanced, EDM-informed music of artists like Halsey, Camila Cabello and Troye Sivan. But subtle and nuanced was never the calling card of the artist behind songs like "I Kissed a Girl." Perry has replaced the eye of the tiger with the heart of a contemporary night owl, making an album of mostly moody, dreamy, reserved music – and one double-entendre-filled, AC/DC-ready food fight in "Bon Appetit." In turn, a pop icon blends into the rest of the radio.

C+

Cleveland

While most of "Witness" focuses on dance pop, Perry goes into breakup mode on powerful slow burners like "Save as Draft" and "Into Me You See." "Witness" could use more of those personal touches, as Perry gets lost in the rest of the album's generic material.

Wiki

Graves from Consequence of Sound gave the album a rating of C. He listed "Swish Swish", "Power", and "Déjà Vu" as essential tracks, but felt that most of the other songs were more of a "filler", and that a lack of cohesiveness with Perry's output made Witness inferior to her previous material.[27] Kevin O'Donnell of Entertainment Weekly gave it a B rating stating, "Perry is reflective, anxious, and fired up on Witness", highlighting "Déjà Vu" and "Swish Swish" as the best tracks.[28] USA Today's Maeve McDermott commended the album for being "sonically coherent" and noted it as a personal record, rather than the politically charged marketing campaign it had received.

Its just ok from what im hearing on Tidal now.

I'm just glad she finally dropped the album. She could only release so many singles.

She really feeds into the Illuminati illusion that people believe. The black and white, the red and blue at the Super Bowl, the eye symbology, etc. I saw a video after her halftime show and the guy was just rolling on every single thing she did or said or the way she blinked. "See, the blinked twice there. That's about the duality idea that we see in black and white". It was just bizarre, and fucking stupid. I remember people going on about Beyonce pointing to her eye during "Halo", or flashing the triangle hand gesture during the Destiny's Child segment. Then, they claim that these gals aren't even directly involved with the Illuminati - they're just puppets. So it's higher ups dictating everything they do, etc. And that every show or super bowl halftime is a ritual satanic sacrifice. HAHAHAHAHAHA I'm sure Katy is just doing her thing, but those knuckleheads are going to have a field day with this album artwork, and probably some lyrics, too.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Katy Perry is in some house, a la big brother, and is live streaming for the last 18 hours. Much like Big Brother live feeds, you can choose one camera to stay on, or a 4-cam multi-stream. I think she's about to do some interviews, because she talked about people coming in. Her chef, a manager possibly, and someone else is in the house.

I'm not sure how long the whole thing is going, but there is going to be a concert at the end of the whole shebang. It's all obviously a build-up for an ensuing tour, etc. There are a lot of eye symbols throughout the house, cameras, monitors, etc. Everyone is mic'd. It's making me ready for CBS Big Brother in a few weeks.

They misspelt 'witless'.

I saw that yesterday morning. I was watching her sleep and her manager get things ready in the kitchen lol. Then I had to go. While I was at the gym watched her have interviews. It was kind of cool to see this semi reality room

I'm skimming it on Spotify. The only thing other than CTTR that has grabbed me is Tsunami (freaky n catchy). I'm on Save as Draft atm. It's ok. As was most of it lurking

Tsunami is a bonafide jam music. I can't stop blasting it on repeat dancing jig. Beat is the best part, but she sells the rest quite well. Very sexy... lick

According to the National Review (not me), Katy Perry's new phase has seemingly made her hated by everyone:

Check the link below:

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/448691/she-definitely-not-playing-her-strengths

She has a few songs that are ok, but not a fan of her overall art. This era does seem a bit strange. It is almost as if she wants to set a new narrative of being this "rebel", but it seems contrived. She has been uber successful and the whole phase seems forced.

Complete garbage from start to finish - and the critics agree. This album is getting horrible reviews for a reason
