Artist who were in multiple groups/bands So, I was reading the credits of my Dramatics Live album, and have noticed that former Temptation Elbridge "Al" Bryant was a member for a short period of time. Probably [Edited 6/8/17 19:42pm] PRINCE: Always and Forever

He's made solo albums, but he was never in another band ever since he joined The Rolling Stones. Keith Richards also made solo albums and formed The X-Pensive Winos, but that too, was just a side project, not Keith joining another band. Hey, you just gave me an idea for another thread...

He was in Superheavy like I mentioned above

Oh yeah, I forgot that... But still, I don't really consider Superheavy a band... More a side project... But thanx for reminding me!

I thought this thread was going to be about artists who were in multiple groups at the same time--like when Robert Smith was both a member of The Cure and The Banshees in the early 80s. And that wasn't even a side project thing. Those were two full-time bands. [Edited 6/10/17 12:11pm]

Larry Dodson was in the Temprees??? Yep he started out as a member. Remember the Barkays Unsung episode when James Alexander asked Larry if he wanted to join the Barkays and Larry accepted and the Temprees didn't take it to well so they beat Larry ass. I think Mickey Dolenz a few years back posted a photo of Larry with the Temprees. Don't laugh at my funk

Doesn't matter, they're still groups. Anyway there's 3 Marvin & Tammi albums, although it has been rumored that some of the songs on the 3rd album is really Valerie Simpson, but Valerie has denied it. He may have but it may have been before The Temprees got their first record deal . Larry left the group to join the Barkays in 1970 and the Temprees also got their first deal with Stax in 1970. Don't laugh at my funk

The whole confusion with Keith Sweat being a member of GQ started I think several years ago when the Music Choice channel incorrectly identified Keith Sweat as formerly being named Keith Crier and a member of GQ but Keith Crier was actually Keith Sweat's uncle. Keith Sweat actually worked with GQ on a small independent label before he hit it big and GQ's hitmaking days passed. Sadly Keith Crier passed away in 2013. Don't laugh at my funk

Larry: I’ve been singing all my life, started when I was very young. But, no, I didn’t do much singing in church. I did go to church, but I wasn’t that involved. I started a vocal group when I was around eleven or twelve called the Temprees, which went on later in the years to become a very successful group. We recorded local records, but they didn’t do that much. We stayed together until about 1970. At that time I had to make the decision on whether I wanted to stay on with them or go with the Bar-Kays and I chose to go with the Bar-Kays. After I left to join the Bar-Kays, Temprees went on to record professionally and made a couple of big hits. The Temprees recorded for Stax and so did the Bar-Kays. Temprees had about four big hits, most were slow, they were ballad singers. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
