'Erotica' is my favorite Madonna album. It's effectively dark,moody,trance-like and hypnotic. It has a certain "mood" to it,very underground/rave-ish.Most of the songs are intentionally cold and robotic, and the whole thing feels like a freaky S&M fantasy...lol...

I love that whole tough-ass,aggressive,S&M,blonde Marilyn Monroe-looking,New York,nightclub,cigarette-smoking,tell-it-like-it-is attitude that she was into back then

Like A Prayer is good but it seems like child's play in comparison to Erotica and Ray of Light, both of which are much better.

I have an affinity for LAP because it was oe of th e first times she got realon record--or that her content was more personal throughout a whole record, and not just one song. Plus it smells nice Plus it produced some of her greatest videos and imo her best tour. The material on LAP is more solid, or it was one of her first records where 99% of her material was stellar and not all pop fluff. This is th e record where she waas taken seriously as a music artist imo. I see her being a brunette while recording this music..natural so to speak..not peroxide in her creation of the songs. "Climb in my fur."

It was a huge step forward. But the overall feel of it is a bit too dear diary and confessional for me. Here, let me talk about my father, my mother, my failed marraige, my family, etc. It seemed great and revealing at the time. But she's moved past that and it seems so old to me now. The music, her singing, the lyrics, the videos are all top-notch and ushered her in as an adult performer. I just relate to and get more enjoyment out of listening to Erotica and Ray of Light. Like A Prayer is still a 5 star album though.

Like A Prayer is still a 5 star album though. I agree with some or most of your take on LAP but at that time it was very refreshing to hear the dear diary stuff or at least the way it was expressed. And yeah I agree that it was her radult album too. I guess thats why I have an affinity for it. It was serious etc before she started to take herself too seriously...if that makes sense. Before the "let me shock them and go as far as I can go" stance. This is the one that gave her power or let her realize what she had inside imo.I see LAP as her Parade "Climb in my fur."

I see 'Like A Prayer' as her Sign "O" The Times/Lovesexy era. Spiritual/Mature/Honest/Sensual and highly musical.
You are right about Erotica - definitely her Come. All that sub-bass! Ahh.

no respect this is why Computer Blue long version should not be released "Climb in my fur."

Relevant to 1989 maybe. Relevant to any woman struggling in early adulthood. It already has withstood the test of time. "Like a Prayer" will always be revered as her most classic album, and rightfully so.

And I don't have a million siblings. That's why the only songs I really relate to are Like A Prayer and Cherish.

It seems self-pitying and a bit of reverse cruelty to her father. I'm glad that they've patched things up because she was much too bitter for that age.

I just can't understand not liking this song, that's all. I see it as Madonna coming to past with her former demons, exorcising them on record. It's Madonna's most haunting song.

I fully admit that it's a wonderful album. Just a bit too familiar and worn out for me. We've had this discussion before about albums that don't do it for you anymore. And I think overall, the messages on Erotica and Ray of Light are a lot more universal. Sure I can't relate to fame, or giving birth or losing a friend to AIDS, but songs like 'Why Is It So Hard?', 'Rain', 'Deeper and Deeper', 'Sky Fits Heaven', 'Nothing Really Matters' and 'Frozen' are universal themes.
