I'm glad this thread popped up because I HATE cow bells.

Late 80s and early 90s music was destroyed by bow bells - particularlrly 12inch remixes.

.

A good example of appauling percussion that has destroyed an album is, Whitney Houston's I'm Your Baby Tonight.

Great title track but very dated album with dated production with excessive cow bells!

the cowbell in "Serpentine Fire" by Earth Wind & Fire is pretty iconic too... i like tbe cowbell in "Holiday" too...
