This is a prince fan board after all. Quick question to everyone though............ What happened to Timmy84 and R. Kelly musical lawyer Mistermaxxx lol ? back in 2001 I used to post with them at some MJJForums but I took a long break from the boards because so much disrespect was going on and people was fussing more than making points and I got sick of the MJ vs Prince threads (annoying) but what happen to Tim and Max?

Yeah, yeah it's a Prince fansite but this is a topic in the Non-Prince section about a non-Prince artist with someone trying to discredit said artiat because he isn't Prince as if only Prince is worthy of praise.

Be a fan but don't be a fanatical snob.

I'm just joking around. Sorry if it wasn't funny. I listen to a lot of other music besides Prince, some long before I ever heard of him. I certainly don't think that he was the only artist worth listening to. BTW Timmy84 has been gone for quite a while...

It's all good. I wasn't accusing you in particular, my original post was in reply to 2freaky4church1's post asking Prince to "forgive" us for daring to say Michael had an excellent singing voice.

That happens on here from time to time and it's just annoying how anobbish certain people get when people compliment certain artists not named Prince (namely Michael).

Okay I think it's once again time to mention the list of the world's greatest vocal ranges.

To be fair, having a wider range doesn't necessarily mean one is a better singer, just that they've shown to have a wider range.

I'm not trying to say Michael was a better singer than Prince but that's the way I see it (in regards to range making a singer). One could argue that someone is a better vocalist for having a wider range than someone else, however.

Any how, interesting to see this list and certain names on it, especially in comparison to where others are. Where is Stevie?

Also is this really in order from widest range to narrowest? They just said they compiled a list but didn't state anything about the organization.

I agree. If only some people realized that and weren't so insecure.

Prince and Mike shared strong similarities but they were in almost different lanes musically and that doesn't necessarily make one better than the other since both individually have contributed a great deal to many things music and non-music alike. No reason someone can't love both equally but many people see fit to have to put one down to bring the other up.

Agreed, wider range doesn't necessarily mean better singer. However the subject of this thread is vocal range. wink

Yes, the list I copied and pasted here was sorted by vocal range - widest on down. The website also gives the option of sorting by highest notes on down, and lowest notes on down (up?).

Good question about Stevie, he's E2 to F#6 which would place him (I think) between Brian Wilson and Neil Young.

This list is false. Even Axl Rose came out and sad it was false.

Falsetto and exclamations are not apart of your range.

Had he been Pushed years ago I think Justin Bieber could have sang all of young Michael's songs...Justin is a 1st Tenor like Michael and I think he could do justice by some of Mike's later work as well...

I know y'all think I'm playing but I am very serious...Justin sings a lot of Pop crap but the young man has a nice singing voice...

Do you mean it? eek eek This might offend so many Jackson's fans.

Okay I think it's once again time to mention the list of the world's greatest vocal ranges.

You'll notice Axl Rose came in first, Prince came in third, and Michael came in 26th.

Here's the source: https://www.concerthotels...1383085430

To create this piece, we took the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time as compiled by Rolling Stone magazine in 2008. To this list, we added some of today's top singers including the nominees for top male and female artist at the Billboard Music Awards 2014. We cross-referenced the resulting list with vocal range data curated by The Range Place. We included all of the singers on the list for whom the data was readily available.

Compare the vocal ranges of today’s top artists with the greatest of all time.

[Edited 5/12/17 13:48pm]

I was asking the same to myself. What a shock to see Bieber in this list.

It's not even just Stevie, where is Patti Labelle?

You can't have Taylor Swift on this list but not Patti (or Stevie).
