Lets Get It On Vs Whats Going On---And WHY?

What do you guys think? These 2 LPs hold the very best 2 RECORDS from the lover man himself Mr.Marvin Gaye but I wanna know what do you guys prefer?? Personaly, I'm so in love wit "Lets Get It On" it has this edgieness/dark atmosphere all over it and the production is very tight, you could feel that Mr.Gaye GREW musicaly and yes vocaly. Besides, putting my hands on The Limited Edition wasn't bad
at all wink.

Plus, I discover something new everytime I give it a REAL listen. I love the small and simple things that involved in the production,,,make you explore more and more nod

Yo thoughts wink

What's going on gets the Nod Head to Head before Deluxe Editions kick in.I think Marvin was very much detailed.now when you talk about the Deluxe Edtions Let's get it on blows it away because some of those Instrumental Tracks with Marvin, the Funk brothers&Cats from the Crusaders&other cats involved are tight.but overall I gotta say that "What's going On"(Arguably IMHO the Greatest Album Ever) paints so many pictures&truly captures a Artist at His Highest High&very straight-forward.it's so Bold when you consider where He was at Motown just a couple years prior to the release of this Album."Let's Get it On" Works because it could at any other time period but "What's Going On" Showcases a Artist truly on the Pulse of the scene&right during the Vietnam War as well? oh Marvin took His brother's Story&added a Unforgetble touch&set a High Bar.ask Stevie Wonder&Smokey Robinson about this Album&it's Impact??

It's hard 2 choose, but i'd go 4 'what's going on?' It's more complex and interesting IMO. And that limited ed. is totally worth it!

both are really great, but i tend to prefer what's going on? it is very soulful, but socially aware. also, i am old enough to get the social perspective of the message, in context of the times in which it was made.

Let's Get It On comes up short to What's Going On in so many ways. The latter album has so much power I still find it hard to believe the effect it had on me the first time I listened to it all the way through. But at the same time they're entirely different types of albums.

'Let's Get It On' (1973) is my personal favorite. It's one of the sexiest albums EVER.The song "You Sure Love To Ball" is Marvin at his absolute best.Other tunes on this album ("Come Get To This","Please Don't Go (Once You Go Away)" and "Keep Gettin It On") are superb.I have fond memories of my mother playing this album to death when I was a kid!

But,'What's Going On' is equally impressive. It deals with world issues,so it's obviously more political than 'LGIO'.Both albums feature some of the most inspired, most effective soul music of all time.

I prefer Let's Get It On, Although I feel What's Goin' On is the more important of the two. It still speaks volumes and is relevant to today's world. I prefer Let's Get It On mainly for one reason: You Sure Love To Ball. It is soul music in its purest form.

Do u have this one?

http://www.cduniverse.com...=142187590

Check this out:

Using rare footage, interviews with friends and family, and the music of the legendary Motown performer, this documentary examines the enigmatic life and music of Marvin Gaye. The recording of the classic LET'S GET IT ON album is documented, which offers insights into Gaye's struggles with substance abuse. Footage is included from Gaye's own self-imposed exiles abroad. While Gaye staples such as "What's Going On" and "Let's Get It On" are included, so are clips of more unusual Marvin Gaye tracks such as "Funky Space Reincarnation."

I'm thinking about buying,,,,you should too! what do u think?

wow,I´ve never seen that documentary.
I have 1 kinda tradic documentary dealing with
his final years. It´s about when he moved 2 Belgium
in the late '70´s.Got off the drugs 4 a little
while,started exersising & getting healthy.
It got some awsome footages with him playing
the piano alone & jamming in the studio on tracks
that would turn up on In our lifetime.
He started getting his life back 2geather
when recording Sexual healing
Then he went back 2 the states & the troubles
came back 2 his life. It´s so sad 2 see the state he´s
in on his last american tour 1983.
That live 1976 video is good but a little bit
2 much Las Vegas with the dancers & stuff,
& Marvin seems a bit wore out.
I´d love 2 see live clips from 1974 tho'
since that live album is so much better than
the london 1977 album in my opinion.
I can truly recomend the book Divided Soul
written by David Ritz.

[b]I love everything that man produced!!! He was one of my favorite artists!!! When Marvin passed, there was an emptyness in my heart I couldn't explain. There is a huge vacuum in the music industry today because of Marvin's absence. His influence was astronomical to say the least!! The man started trends, and every album to me was a masterpiece and should have won Grammys (I never liked Sexual Healing, but the album kicked ass (Til' Tomorrow still makes me weepy for Marvin, After Midnight, Turn Up the Music, etc.) but I'm happy he won something. I love Marvin and always will. One of the most powerful musical legendary icons that ever lived!!!
