Yeah it's great. One of those albums that carries a strong vibe. Even the weaker songs feel like an essential part of the whole work. . But I'm OK with cherry picking the high points and there are a lot of them... Rocks Off, All Down The Line, Tumblin Dice, Sweet Virginia, Shake Your Hips, Soul Survivor, Loving Cup, Happy... some of the best stuff they ever did.

Mick Jagger once said that Exile shouldn't be played all at once, that it was designed as twenty minute bursts. Looking at it from that perspective, it works perfectly with sides 2 and 4 as my favourites. I do agree with Panther's top 5, although Some Girls could also be a good # 5, if only for Before They Make Me Run and Beast of Burfen.

It's been a grower for me over the years. I knew the hype about it and was pretty underwhelmed first time I heard it. It doesn't have an epically awesome track like Beggars Banquet or Let it Bleed or Sticky Fingers but it has an unusual vibe. Favourite songs maybe I Just Wanna See His Face, Ventilator Blues, Soul Survivor but they really dont stand head and shoulders above everything else.

Album flows so well, Enjoy Tumbling Dice, Rocks Off, the fantastic lyricism of side 2s countyish songs, but will say the gospel flourishes of Let it Loose, Shine A Light are the highlights of this album.
Definately among their best, would put above Let it Bleed, more on par with Beggar's Banquet, but agree Sticky Fingers is their best. Goats Head Soup is not that far from the standard set by these Stones classics, quite underated, love Winter. merf

This is my favorite Stones album, and I'm a huge fan. Probably "Stop Breaking Down", their version of an old blues song by Robert Johnson, might be my favorite track, but they're all great in their own way #SOCIETYDEFINESU

Anyone seen the doco about the making of this album released a few years back? I assume it's great just haven't got around to watching. Been playing it the last few days, as well as Exile in Guyville, which is also super awesome

It tells the story of how they were hanging around in this big house in the south of France, getting high and doing some recording. Seemed like one big vacation to me!

The album has a natural flow through out. The first double album by the stones and they made it sound as best as they could, its raw and organic as Rock Blues could be. My favs Tumbling Dice,Sweet Virginia,Happy,Stop Breaking Down(Robert Johnson song) and Rocks Off.

I love it. It has rock, soul, gospel. My fav is Let It loose. Better than Bleed. At certain times during the week, yes. The lore of the recording sessions in France mansion adds to the listening pleasure. So does the muddied production values. For a good time call Exile. "Climb in my fur."
