Anyone know why Michael Jackson and George Michael had so many gaps between albums?
As a fan I wish they would have released more...

Michael was a perfectionist. He would record countless songs every year and only the best ones would make it to an album. He also had long, world-wide tours. And then there were feuds with Sony, then the 00s trial, another argument with Bahrain's sheikh... You get the picture. full lips, freckles, and upturned nose

As a fan I wish they would have released more... George... IDK. During the peak of his career his was to busy being engaged in a legal war against Sony to make music. Post-Sony trial, I can't really explain. If you include his Jackson (5) work, MJ was a much more prolific artist than George but even alone he still dropped 2-3 more albums than George did.

I can only speak on MJ but MJ was a perfectionist and visionary artist. He would write over 100 songs for each of his albums, come up with melodies, beats, rhythms, and play around with different sounds until he was satisfied. He spent years being inspired and creating songs and music and when he felt he was truly moved, the record would make the cut. I think he was never really satisfied with his work and constantly challenged himself (which is why the writing and creative process took such a long time) When he was satisfied, he presented a body of work that he was pleased with. MJ was also aware of his engimatic fame and draw when he released projects, made appearances, headlines, etc and purposely would take reclusive breaks from the spot light in order to not overexpose himself. He was very intriqued with mystique and maintaining a aura of mystery.

Lol.....Mj took so long for only 2 real reasons. 1, The record company wanted to max out what ever his current project was. 2. Mj tended to hire whom ever was "hot' as a producer. One of the reasons that they were 'hot" was they were busy producing others...which ment MJ had to wait for their schedule to clear up before they could actually work with him. I'd say in Mike's case, he was rich enough not to put out anything (incuding profits from the ATV catalog) and his records continued to sell. Also, the accusations happened in 1993. That killed a lot of his plans, including to act in movies. I think if that hadn't happened, his career wouldn't have stalled, so he would have released more stuff. George Michael has said he wasn't really interested in being a celebrity and has to be "George Michael" when he goes out, instead of being himself. The Faith period burned him out on that. He had said that he broke away from Wham! for the same reason. He said Wham! was more Andrew Ridgeley's personality than his own, that there couldn't be a Wham! without Andrew. Wham! did release their 3 albums close together, unlike George did in his solo career. George had some problems in his personal life too and was depressed at times. . I wonder why Jermaine stopped releasing music after 1991. Since leaving the Jackson 5, he released an album just about every year, and in 1980 he put out 2 albums. To this day he has more solo albums than any of the other siblings, including Mike & Janet. There were rumors that he was blacklisted in the industry because of Word 2 The Badd. It kind of makes sense, as that was on the final album he released, until that jazz standards album with the opera singer in 2012. Between that time he has sung on a few songs with acts from overseas, like in India. yEAH.... no $#!+, right?
I've heard it chalked to the label/songwriting disputes etc... but never heard an official reason
ESPECIALLY considering he'd announced "THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LULA MAE" and "FULLFILLINGNESS' FIRST FINALE PART TWO" (yes, that's the name) and "FROM THE EYES OF STEVIE WONDER" about a DECADE ago when I first got to catch him live (on a real tour)
the little nuggets in between have been pretty good.... SOME YEARS AGO, MISREPRESENTED PEOPLE.... but that's pretty much it ♫"Trollin, Trolling! We could have fun just trollin'!"♫

Roger Waters. I'm looking forward to the new album this year.
As for prolific artists, I'm happy Electric Six and Thee Oh Sees offer up something annually.

LOL He writes his own music and comes up with the melodies himself. He IS an artist. You make it sound like he is Rihanna or Beyonce who works with 25 producers and songwriters for one album, c'mon now. [Edited 4/21/17 21:33pm]

Yeah, I like Bilal I like his albums. Sometimes it has to grow on me. I did not care for the last album. I only like one track oddly enough it's titled " I Really Don't Care " Of the 3 of them Bilal,D'angelo and Maxwell. Bilal is more daring in trying different sounds musically. I'm hoping he drops something soon.

Axl Rose (GNR) has put out 14 new songs since 1991. That has to be some kind of record. Those songs were on one album (Chinese Democracy).
