What's the last non-Prince album you listened to from beginning to end and why? Part 2 Part 1 is here:
http://prince.org/msg/8/438004 Listened to the "Moonlight" Original Motion Picture Soundtrack this morning from one of my favorite films of 2016. Its surprise win for Best Picture at the Oscars this year was historic. The film is an intimate, heartbreaking, and redeeming film about the struggles of a gay African American male as it follows his journey of self-discovery and acceptance from different points in his life from his childhood, teenage years and adulthood. The haunting score will stay with you long after you watch the film. https://youtu.be/5fYFIj16YC0 [Edited 4/1/17 7:28am] "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Listened to Jamiroquai's Automaton from start to finish this morning. It was OK...very much a single-note album with no ballads and no real highlights imho. If you've heard the first two singles, then you've basically heard the other 10 tracks.
I've liked all of J's albums in some way, from the acid jazz to the electronic beats. I was looking forward to hearing where they are in 2017. My initial answer is nowhere in particular. [Edited 4/1/17 10:36am] Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

Genesis: Platinum Collection (2004) I've been listening to it all week, but it doesn't have my all-time fav song of their's called No Reply At All from the classic Abacab (1981) album maybe in the future it will appear on the next greatest hits package

Joni Mitchell's The Hissing of Summer Lawns
because I hear her sound in Prince's music, he admires her so much, and I'm doing a thread on Under the Cherry Moon and that album was in Christophers home

Goldfrapp's Silver Eye has been pretty much all I've played for the past 36 hours. Really solid new release. Prior to that, though, Little Dragon's Nabuma Rubberband had been on steady rotation in its entirety for the past couple weeks. Why? Because it's friggin' amazing -- and "Pretty Girls" cranked up to 10, in particular, rivals some of Prince's best work for a dance-inducing groove. [Edited 4/1/17 21:11pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Saw them live for the first time last week. Found out about them looking at who plays at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis. Enjoy their old-fashioned fun sound. Bought the album directly after the show and listened to it on the way home.
I miss you my friend --jj, me, and many others

I frequently listen to entire Michael Jackson albums all the time. . But other artists- Elton John - self titled 1970, why because it is great, good songwriting and a nice rockabilly style. It featured the work of 22 year old Elton and his 19 year lyric writing assistant Bernie Taupin and its a very listenable album, with songs like Grey Seal, Rock and Roll Madonna, Take me to the pilot, Border song, no shoe strings on louise and many more. . Late 60s singer songwriter folk rock excellence, even though they are young and it is his 2nd album (The first Empty sky from 1969 is very slight), it sounds like the work of a seasoned genius. It was released in January 1970 and broke him through in the USA, but fame in the UK had to wait another year, when Your Song was released as a single and became a hit. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Anti by Rihanna. Because she bad. Its an apex for her regarding the music. Its almost like alt-rnb-pop. She even covered Tame Impala (to a t lol) on Same Ol' Mistakes.
She went in on this one. Who knew she was so dirty hehe. "Climb in my fur."

Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine (unreleased version). Why? Because I am not one who gets their oxygen supply from playlists and singles. I enjoy albums. And this is a good one. In fact, I enjoy the unreleased version more than the released version.
