The Original Beatles

0242.jpgThere were originally five Beatles. From left to right are Stuart Sutcliff, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon, and Pete Best on drums. Stuart Sutcliffe played bass guitar but left the band to pursue art college before the Hamburg tour.

Wondering how this lineup would've turn out, if they had stayed together. hmmm

I've read that Pete Best got a lot of money when the Anthology CDs came out.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Tony Sheridan & Stuart Sutcliffe (The Beatles were Tony's backup band for awhile and played on his album too.)

I met Pete Best about 7 years ago at the 50th Grammy Awards Presentation. He was very nice, and was very strangely excited that I knew of him at all. His daughters are super tall and very beautiful. I have a picture with him somewhere.

Largely the same, if not exactly the same. Ringo was a better drummer. John & Paul wrote a majority of the music & lyrics, with George writing a bit more as the years went on. Their songwriting, the way it changed over the years, was largely based on the things they were experiencing personally and the way the world was changing around them. I would think if their personal lives had been different (less success, different relationships), or if they had not chosen to pursue things like spiritual mysticism, LSD, the peace and freedom hippie movement, being openly anti-war, etc., that the music would be different. But if they stayed on those paths I don't think different personel would have affected their sound much at all.
