I second that! Although thinking about it now, I can see why Jay avoids the US, with our current "musical" landscape and all. Our shit hasn't sucked this bad as long as I've actively sought out music (even though there's still great stuff being released. You just gotta work for it to find it), and Jamiroquai would no doubt go over a lot of kids' heads, especially those that ain't familiar with them. Whatever. I hope Automaton catches on here and the promoters start seeing the dollar signs and pulls the trigger on booking them to tour here.

I have the feeling that you are more taken with this album than even Tuxedo II. smile I like both by the way.

Yeah that's a cool song and I agree it does sound like TWM era Jamiroquai!

I like the Tuxedo album a lot but I gotta be honest: since last Friday, all I've been listening to is the new Jamiroquai CD.I'll make time for Tuxedo, though
smile it feels good to have an abundance of great "new" music!

Stuart and Toby!

things were Never the same after they split.

to me

they turned into a 4 on the floor disco/house ish type of funky ish group..

like funk by numbers.. or trying to be 'obviously' funky ish..

in the GOLDEN ERA

Toby co-wrote everything with jay and his Rhodes piano was THE sound of the group.

ADD Badass Stu on Bass and Derrick on drums. = very cool Classic!

There are some other moments on this album that remind me of their early years..."Dr Buzz",for example.

Right on. But by the time 2000 hit, I was only 14 and I damn sure wasn't hitting concerts at a clip that I ended up doing as I got older. Jamiroquai, while I certainly knew of them, weren't exactly on my radar to the point that they are now. So while I'm envious you've seen the OG band more than once, I gotta take what I can get. And if there's a chance they're coming here like the rumors suggest (and like SoulAlive hipped me to the Italian interview), I am motherfucking going to see them. Even if it's a small handful of dates like he's (they've) done over the past 10-15 years, I'm there.

I'm very fortunate I saw them twice in '97 in NYC and Florida on the Travelling Without Moving tour with Toby Smith on keys and the one and only Stuart Zender on bass! They were awesome. Good times!

SoulAlive... I just caved in and ordered the CD! I knew I would break down and buy it eventually. I dig some of the songs... Overall my main disappointment is that at Jay Kay's age, I wish his songs were a little deeper than just about going to the club and dancing with his girl! And a little less disco-ish.... But I've heard enough cool stuff to realize it's still worth a purchase, as I'm still a huge Jamiroquai fan.

yeah,I hear what you're saying. The last album,'Rock Dust Light Star' seemed like an attempt to do more "serious" songs and to get away from the disco sounds....but now it seems like Jay wants to return to partying again smile I'm okay with that. The world is so crazy right now.I need some disco jams to enjoy, lol

Is no one else surprised to find nothing close to a ballad on this album? I get that it's a return to party-time, but no ballad means no peaks and valleys on the album and a lot of the songs sound the same to me. Individually, there are many tracks I like. But, I don't find the sequencing of these 12 songs a very fun ride when taken in at a single sitting. It's better shuffled in with other Jamiroquai albums to me.

I bought the album but had to go hunting to the Japanese bonus track online, which I like a lot. Wish they'd make it available as a pay-download so I could pay for it.

to be honest,I think the two ballads on the last album ("Blue Skies" and "Never Gonna Be Another") were sorta bland.....decent,but bland. So I'm OK with all uptempo songs this time.

I hear you and agree with you but just wanna point out that (if I'm not mistaken) he WAS on Cocaine back in those days and he's no longer on it now (again, If I'm not mistaken). In the liner notes of the Remastered/Reissued Space Cowboy album, Jay Kay himself talks about how drugged out he was during the making of their 2nd album.

And it's the best album they ever made. I'm enjoying some of the songs on this album, but when you put it next to The Return of the Space Cowboy, which such a rich album both musically and lyrically, you see there's no comparison.

And really, lyrically Automaton is mostly god awful!

I totally agree.. Return of the Space Cowboy is their best album!

Travelling Without Moving is up there as well.

Synkronized, A Funk Odyssey, Emergency on Planet Earth, and Rock,Dust, Light, Star are all excellent as well.

I was just thinking that "Something About You" should be the next single. It is the most radio-friendly song on the album. It actually sounds like something that Bruno Mars would do.Plus,it's less disco-y than most of the other songs.I could see it being a hit in certain markets.
