Chaka Khan and NPG records....

I've been listening to Ckaka's "Come To My House" and its rather sexy, smart but quite uncommerical. I understand why it was probably her lowest selling disc (I don't think it even made the charts). I think she thought she had a hit on her hands with this album taht was largely co-written by herself and had a huge involvement by Prince. Songs like "Spoon", "Bethca I", "Drama" and "Don't Talk 2 Strangers" are all hot and had potenial.

I'm just wondering what her reltionship is with Prince and the label. Is she sorry she left Warners/Reprise? Will she ever release a new album and will it be on a major label. I know she just won a grammy for a collbration lately. I know she is touring with Teddy Pendgrass too. I guess I want to know, where is she know (in her recording career)?

I love that LP, you might kill me 4 saying this but it was actualy the 1st CD I eva owned from Chaka Khan and it made me dug deeper into that woman's legacy, I trip when I see ppl saying that its not a good LP.

As 4 NPG,,,she's not an NPG anymo', she got her independent label already and its called "Earth Songs"(I think) some say that her upcoming LP is a reunion with Rufus, others say its a live one and the rest say its a jazz one. Don't know what 2 believe,,,however I'd love 2 believe the 1st one.

Several years ago,Chaka started her own label Earth Song Records. But so far, nothing has come of it.Being "independent" is great and all (from a financial standpoint),but I don't think some artists realize just how difficult it can sometimes be.In recent years,Chaka has mentioned several projects (a jazz album,a rock album,a reunion album with Rufus),but these albums have yet to materialize.I think she's having a hard time getting her label off the ground.

'Come 2 My House' was planned as a one-time collaboration with NPG Records. It's a great album, filled with memorable gems like the title track and "The Drama" (my fav). But,as is the case with most NPG releases,it suffered from a lack of promotion and effective marketing.I love Chaka though, and I know that she could easily ressurect her career.

It's stil the only original Chaka album I have! I had Epiphany" for years and then on a whim decided to get "Come 2 My House" (a few weeks after its release). Even worse, I don't own a Rufus collection but love their stuff. I should go to Ebay and look for stuff their. There is no excuse for not owning any Rufus!

aside from "Spoon"&Another Track I thought "Come 2 My House" Was Very Corny&Dated&also seemed strickly by the Numbers IMHO.of course when She hooked up with Prince She expected more&when the Album Tanked She split&last I heard trying to Hook back with Rufus&do other Projects.

I thought Come 2 My House was a really great album and definitely in the higher league of her releases. It's a pity a major didn't get hold of this one as it could've been a terrific comeback.

Solid album. In fact, every thing up through Democrazy and including it was fantastic. There were some weak spots (I never cared for her version of Don't Talk to Strangers). The remake of Hair is good. My favorite songs are This Crazy Life of Mine, Come 2 my house, Spoon, Pop my Clutch, Journey 2 the Center of your heart, Democrazy, and The Drama (props to Kirk Johnson for writing a fine tune!)

"The Drama" is my favorite song on the album.I love hearing Prince's vocals on this tune, singing along with Chaka. It's a moody, hypnotic song with GREAT lyrics.Shoulda been a single, with massive promotion.

The only songs that I didn't like were the two remakes "Don't Talk To Strangers" and "Hair".Even though Chaka is an incredible singer, those remakes can't touch the originals.

Ooooh 'The Drama' is one hell of a song. I also dig 'Come 2 my house' (song). I don't agree that it's not a commercial album though. In fact it's overproduced and quite cheesy IMO.

I LOVE This Crazy Life Of Mine, and Democrazy is a JAM! Pity this collaboration came about during such a shitty period musically for Prince - the album is good, but what about Chaka doing some vocals over some more jazzy, Xpectation-esque (instrumentally) stuff?!

the new tracks that were on her 'epiphany' lp were waaay better than the ones she did with prince...especially the tracks with david gamson and meshell ndegeocello...on free my hear.com, m has hinted that the entire album would see the light of day (holding my breath)

Damn You are on a Roll SHO NUFF! He could Never do Much for Acts He Brought in that were Older Acts.Chaka Herself said long ago She dug His Older Stuff&I think She knew going in She wasn't gonna get the Prime time Prince Cuts.the trip out thing was I working alongside these Girls who aren't at all into Prince&they were willing to give "Come in 2 My House" A Fair Shake&they said it sounded by the Numbers in terms of Production&they didn't have a Negative thing to say about Prince&whatnot but the music to them Sounded by the Numbers as well overall.
