TLC's Kickstarter-Funded Album

02/2017

The surviving members of TLC, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chili" Thomas, are planning to release their Kickstarter-funded album this summer.

TLC's manager Bill Diggins wrote on the album's Kickstarter page, "On behalf of TLC and myself I want to express our most sincere thanks for your patience on waiting for the album. I am thrilled to let you know that the album is tentatively scheduled to be released at the end of June and you will receive our advance album prior to that," he begins.

"This album could not have happened without your support and your confidence in TLC has inspired us greatly to make the best album possible," he adds.

According to the Kickstarter page, more than 4,000 people together pledged $430,255 for the group's campaign to create their fifth and final studio project.

The album will be TLC's first since third member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes was killed in a car accident in 2002.

This is good news, turned into an interesting saga for their Kickstarter album. I didn't donate but I may buy the album if they produce a strong single. I did donate to singer Res for her new album Reset it's been a long haul but she did deliver a new track recently and has teased a few others. I like the concept it's neat to invite fans into the process a bit as financial supporters vs consumers.

TLC launched the Kickstarter campaign in Jan 2015. Still, it's been a long road to completion.

Thank you for mentioning Res. My friend and I were just wondering about her last week. I'll be on the lookout for Reset.

@dancerella she's still in it to win it doing shows all over and what not. I loved her Fleetwood Mac cover EP and have been craving something new for awhile now.

the fact that tlc is the number 1 selling girl group of all times getting funds by major labels or heavy hitters shouldnt be a issue for them with or without left eye. i would of loved if they could of worked with prince before he and left eye passed

New message from TLC's manager to supporters:

Hey Kickstarter Family, The album date is firm, June 30th is the release of the new TLC album that you made happen!

Tionne and Chilli have been working night and day to hit this date. The video and a photo shoot on April 18th, 19th, 20th. I hope that you all read the article in The Guardian last week on why TLC’s comeback is so important, it is a great read on the group that you love and you should be proud that you made this album happen. The Waterfall’s version from the voice was magical and received 40 million views in a week!! Ed Sheeran gave some of his publishing to the writers of No Scrubs and TLC sold out in London in one minute…it was a blessed month for us and we finally feel a little wind at our back.
