George Michael Tribute on Brit Awards (also Prince In Memoriam)

Andrew Ridgeley, Helen (Pepsi), & Shirlie got up and just spoke about the early days with GM, and how he was such a raw talent.

Chris Martin sang "A Different Corner" - granted not as great as GM, with clips of interview w/ GM during the song. They spliced it with GM singing a verse and pre-chorus from the Symphonica tour. Then they sang together.

Prince was highlighted in the Memoriam section, along with Bowie, GM, Glenn Frey, George Martin, and Pete Burns. Many names came across the screen.

It's all so very sad. I hate that we have to have these moments right now.

Edit: Fixed girl's names. Added video.

I thought it was a very heartfelt tribute from people who were close to him. You even had Prince on video saying "bless you George Michael" eek

Yeah that was a nice touch incorporated into the A Different Corner live footage of George (it was the MTV Europe Awards 1994(?) Peach intro "Peace to George Michael" bit)

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

That was Pepsi (real name Helen) rather than Dee (DC) Lee (I think DC was only in the first iteration of Wham! for the Fantastic album before carving out her career/relationship with The Style Council/Paul Weller, and going solo)

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Yep, that's a funny clip too, because part of the band is playing some sort of intro, and Prince, Mayte & Tommy come from off stage somewhere. Prince comes swaggering out, and a bodyguard stops him and says "THIS WAY!" or something just as urgent. Prince stops on a dime, pivots, and heads in the right direction. Even a staff person nearby grins at the moment.

He does say "Peace to George Michael", and someone else, too.

Loved this tribute but of course hate having to HAVE one as we lose another great. I much preffered this tribute it was more from the heart, and did not seem like it was rushed into a slot like the Grammy one was. The thing that bothered me about the Grammy's was the odd song choice and re-doing the song that way, I doubt the crowd even knew what the hell song that was. The Brits last year also well outdid the grammys with BOWIE's tribute. I was not a fan of Gaga doing the whole dress up thing much like what Bruno did this year. And of course seeing ANdrew and Pepsi and Shirlie was they way it needed to be done. And Chris Martin whether you like him or not he is an "80's head" as we know from past events with a-ha and other bands that came from that era, so once again Grammys are well outdone and put together.

...can anyone BELIEVE that THAT'S Andrew Ridgeley???!!! He looks like he's practically using a *walking stick*!!!

Is it humanly possible to believe that anyone is as old as WE are?? biggrin Like, who actually remembers Wake Me Up Before You Go Go from when they were a kid??!! (just rewatched that video, side by side with this one, just to make sure that it IS indeed, the same guy!! smile )

Well, I didn't see a walking stick, virtual or otherwise. I mean - people age. George had full on gray and didn't hid it in recent years, whereas he might have had some slight grays in the late 90s (circa Older years), and probably colored it. That hair was a bit too dark and too perfect (this coming from a hairstylist of 20+ years, by the way).

They get older just like the rest of us. Andrew's always been kind lanky. Frankly, he looks good for 54, and aside from a real physical ailment, I don't know many 54 year olds who use a walking stick. There was an interview a few years ago with George & Andrew, and he was just as thin back then. He never had fat moments like GM did.

Does Prince say "Bless you George Michael" as is widely reported? I could swear I heard ; " Peace to George Michael."

Edit:..I see someone else thought the same.

It's been established in the thread that he said "peace...to George Michael". I mean, it's not hard to hear if you find the video. He said the same thing twice again. Remember, this was when they were both battling their record companies, for different reasons.

Great tribute to George bawl and I think The Brit Awards had the best In Memoriam out of all the award shows that I watched, because they didn't leave anyone out and it was beautifully done thumbs up!
