Why hasn't 24K Magic (the album) hit #1 yet? Before anyone jumps to conclusions and makes assumptions, by asking this question I am not implying or attempting to imply that chart positions have anything to do with the quality of the music or the talent of the artist. This is a simple question with no atrings attached. With that said, Bruno's latest album, 24K Magic has peaked at #2, just missing the top of the pop chart. It did however crest the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and I find it weird how the album didn't hit #1 since just about any album from anybody with just an ounce of name value can go #1 on the pop chart yet one of the most popular artists today released a project that didn't.

The album is definitely more R&B rather than pop so reaching #2 is excellent but all the same, it's weird how one of today's biggest names' album failed to reach the top at a time where anybody can have a #1 album. I think the songs have a hand in the album's performance as well. 24K Magic is a more consistent project than Unorthodox Jukebox but its singles aren't as strong as "Locked Out of Heaven" or "Treasure".24K Magic (the song) is a cool groove but it didn't quite grab me like LOOH did back in 2013.

24K is a big hit but he was NOT going to top hard rock fans with Metallica's new album. They been waiting a minute for that one.

Good question. I think it has to do with both the timing of the album release and the material on the album. In the case of timing, I think his album should have been released in the summer instead of in November during the holiday season. The album has a summer/party sound to it and I think it would've received a better response had it been released sometime during June-Sept. The following week The Weeknd released his Starboy album, and seeing how he is very popular right now it's no surprise that his album debuted at #1.
At this point, in order for it to get to the top spot the album needs to have more PROMOTION! 24K Magic-the single is old news now. That's What I Like has been released to radio, and that is the new single at the moment, but I am frustrated by the lack of promotion from Bruno. We should have had a new music video by now, but I hear rumors that he is working on a new video at the moment. Which is great because it's long overdue.

Yeah seriously this is a long wait for a second single! It's been about four months now and no new video? 24K is getting old now. Didn't have the play value that Uptown Funk had all summer. I agree it got a late release for such a summer album and song. Better hurry up with "That's What i Like". Chunky already was seen and heard five months ago so too late for that one. I feel Calling All My Lovelies and or Finess could be released after this then tour and hang the album up. That will stretch it out a year Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Bruno Mars isn't an albums artist. He's known for singles. That's for one.
He could have debuted at #1 and pulled bigger numbers than Metallica, personally I thought he would do huge numbers like 400K or more.
But here's the thing:
People somehow didn't like 24K Magic as much as Uptown Funk, the song is still huge, but it's not a massive monster hit like we thought it would be. Maybe the whole pimp swaggy funk persona got old, maybe the pre-chorus isn't catchy enough, and you gotta admit the song's synthfunk production is a bit complex for EVERYONE to consume it and know it by heart.
AND THE MOST REASONABLE FACTOR WHY THE ALBUM - SONG weren't NUMBER ONE:
STREAMINGBruno's NOT a streaming force, Spotify won't put him on their most followed - popular playlists, and Apple Music gave him ONLY one banner at the time of the release. And today, unfortunately:
Good streaming numbers = A good position on the Hot 100 Chart.
Plus if you checked the physical albums charts, Bruno sold much more than the Weeknd in that departement, but the Weeknd had a massive Spotify deal and he's a massive streaming force.
_______
On the other hand, Bruno doesn't have a manager. He fired Brandon Creed for a reason we don't know, now he does all the promo himself.
Also, he apparently ditched Ari Levine from the Smeezingtons, who are one of the most well-known producers today (Currently up for AOTY @ Grammys for producing a song off Adele's 25). He instead created a whole new production team by the name of Shampoo Press & Curl, who are rumored to be Bruno, Phil AND BRODY BROWN. And TIL THIS DAY Bruno didn't even say not one thing about that, nor explained what happened.
The promo this era is a bit messy, he kept performing 24K and I know for a fact HE wanted it to be number one, but it didn't happen... Maybe after all the song WASN'T THAT GOOD.
And NaughtyKitty has a point, this album isn't for the masses. It's a nostalgic trip for those who love 90s music, and the reason why I like Bruno is because he takes a risk and releases a funk song in the middle of a tropical - EDM atmosphere that rules the radio.
And honestly, I like this... Bruno can write a number one song in his sleep, he's known for THAT basically, but he probably won't sign up for an easy, effortless catchy pop song a la Ed Sheeran or JT... he wanted to step up his game musically AND STILL make something that people will get down to, I think he succeeded.

Classic rock acts have dedicated fanbases that but that's still pretty interesting how Metallica prevented Bruno from going #1. It would have been one thing had they topped the chart for a week or so and merelt delayed Bruno but they really kept him from going #1.

[Edited 2/8/17 13:54pm] I was wondering how the album held up since its release and was under the assumption that it would have dropped out of the top 10 long before now. Bruno could bounce back a little after the Grammys on Sunday but the dude needs to put out a new single pronto. [Edited 2/8/17 16:39pm]

Some big selling albums didn't even hit number one, it was timing from Metallica. The fact it's still top 10 makes it relevant enough.

There's your answer. And I think it speaks to the type of music fan that can really take you to #1 if you stay true to your sound. As opposed to appealing to the flakes.
