I'm with you...seems like for the past year and a half or so, the going trend has been to do these made for television biopics on 80's and 90's R&B artists/groups. With Jodeci, there won't be any specific dance routine's the actors would have to practice...just basically K-Ci's "hoo yeah" and stick their tongue out like a snake. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. |

Jodeci is not the same as Dru Hill. You have to remember that DeVante Swing's productions paved the way for Timbaland, Missy Elliott, and has a direct link to the Neptune's sound, to make no mention of their physical presentation which was iconoclastic at the time, but turned out to be influential for other R&B singing groups.
Dru Hill does not have the same type of cultural import that Jodeci does. |

All these 80's and 90's groups will sign off on a biopic based off of potential income alone lol. Not every story translates that well to the big/small screen. I think documentaries will be more sufficient for most of these acts. Teddy Riley, Babyface and Jam & Lewis would be really good full-length documentary subjects. A lot of artists/groups are branches on their trees. |

I agree. Jodeci had a big impact on New Jack Sing and the R&B sound in the 90's but I do agree these bio movies are becoming trendy and cliche. Not every group or artist that makes it has to have their story told. However, The best bio pic movies are the ones in which the artist or group were involved in the production.
The best bio movies on singers will always be The Temptations, The Jackson and American Dream, Whats Love Got to Do with It, Introducing Dorothy Dandridge and Ray. Some artists live the typical cliche but then some stars live very interesting lives that translate better in movies.

To me DeVante Swing is the most intriguing and musically-skilled member of Jodeci. I'm fascinated by his production work from the '90s. |

It was sarcasm. Even with all that said, Jodeci is not iconic enough. Neither was Miki Howard or Michel'le. Neptunea are Teddy Rileys discovery not DeVante's.
You misused "sarcasm", Blue, because you equated Jodeci with Dru Hill and that is not an equal comparison. Jodeci is certainly iconic, you just don't recognize why because you probably don't like them.
DeVante's unique production values and approach to songwriting is exactly the blueprint used by left-field R&B producers who followed after Forever My Lady, but you are right about Riley's involve- ment with the Neptunes.

They're not the same level that is why I used Dru Hill. And I own Jodeci and K-Ci and Jo-Jo records. I like them, I just don't feel they are iconic. Them and BIIM are the last of the great vocal groups. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I agree, Jodeci does not need a biopic. For what? And this goes for all the other R&B cats and hip-hop artists, no you are not interesting enough to have a biopic. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired! |

I agree, their sound was and IS very influential. However, they are not Icons. They have classic albums but I wouldn't call any of their albums Iconic.

Jodeci did New Jack Swing too. They definitly helped in progressing the genre. I never said they invented it but they had big impact on it. |

Yes, Jodeci was NJS all the way on their debut album in 1991. I consider 1991 the pinnacle of NJS. In 1992 it was fading out and by '93 it was gone. Jodeci's 2nd album was pointed towards all of that G-funk bullshit that started making its way into R&B acts. 1992-1995 was definitely a transitional period for R&B and the emergence of so-called neosoul. I hated it, LOL. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired! |
