"Tuesday Heartbreak," Stevie Wonder, and "If You Want Me To Stay," Sly Stone (early echoes of Camille).

Did you mean Maybe Your Baby? That is true Camille there.

WOW...forgot about that one! Senior year of high school...first time I heard it, I just KNEW Prince was involved! But nope...

Make it so, Number One...

Fully agreed and I've said so here numerous times, that "MYB" was Camille before Camille.

But "TH" was "17 Days" before "17 Days," plus, it was the first of several tracks on Talking Book that came to mind at the time I posted.

iT's YoU by ZAYN. Heartwrenching break-up song reminiscent of Prince's I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore. Love the falsetto!

Some (fairly) recent songs like Jessie Ware's 'Tough Love' make obvious (and, to my mind, rather clunky) references. Others show the influence in a more interesting way, though. These work for me:

And this from 2:50 always puts me in mind of the kind of vocal arrangement our guy would later nail:

This was the first one I thought of. lol A sort of Prince-meets-Curtis-Mayfield vibe. Sounds kinda corny now, but I enjoyed it back in the day. cool

are you kidding...his influence is everywhere...

Fast Car - The Dream. This must have been intentional...it even comes with a Prince moan/noise as it starts. Love this track.

By the way, there's an indie artist called YahZarah (Yah-Zah-Rah) who is a massive Prince fan. She's been doing Prince tribute shows in the last year, or more. But her own music is amazing. She started out as a background singer for Erykah Badu. She works a lot with The Foreign Exchange (whose own Phonte is on her 2010 album; the FE has also worked with Sy Smith who did a great cover of Prince's "Crazy You" and Steely Dan's "Black Cow" - find it and check her out too).

But...back on track, YahZarah's 2010 album The Ballad of Purple St. James is an album Prince should have made.

More specifically, she has a song that I've always said, "This is the song Prince wished he'd written". It's called "Last To Leave". It's a heart-wrenching ballad about a breakup (a lot of the album is, despite it's mostly uptempo feel). I think when you hear this album, and specifically this song, you'll think about Prince in it.

I interviewed her once for a radio show, and told her what I thought of that song, and she was taken aback by it. But it was my honest opinion when I first heard that song.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.
