What non-Prince song makes you think of Prince when you listen to it?

Wishful Thinking by China Crisis-- this song by the UK pop/rock band from Liverpool was a hit in the '80s when I was living in the Philippines. Makes me think of Prince when I listen to it now and it kinda reminds me of his song, Reflection.

"I sat on the roof
And watched the day go by
I see the likeness in his smile and the way he stands
Makes it all worthwhile

And if I wish to stop it all
And if I wish to comfort the fall
It's just wishful thinking" sad
"Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

"We had fun, didn't we?"

"Four In One," Thelonious Monk (a playful ditty that reminds me of Prince's piano medley during the LoveSexy tour).

"Tuesday Heartbreak," Stevie Wonder, and "If You Want Me To Stay," Sly Stone (early echoes of Camille).

"Inspiration Information," Shuggie Otis

"All I Want," Joni Mitchell

Most of On The Jungle Floor, Van Hunt

"Breathing Underwater," Hiatus Kaiyote

Killing Me Softly With His Song by Roberta Flack

I just think of a young Prince... full of talent, misunderstood, quite shy...

"Justify My Love" from Madonna. There's a line in her song, and her delivery that makes me think of "Positivity". And vice versa - I can hear Prince's song, and sing the next line in "Justify My Love". It's very specific, but one evokes the other.

Edit: The line from Madonna is:

Are you scared?
Tell me your stories
I'm not afraid of who you are
We can fly

Prince's line is:

Cuzzin' when Spooky say dead, U better say died
Or U can fly high right by Spooky and all that he crawls 4

It's something about how either of them say "fly", that has always made me think that. Madonna says "We can fly..." and in my mind I say "...right...by...Spooky and all that he crawls for.."

It's such a guilty pleasure song for me listening to it knowing how much they tried (and succeeded) to emulate Prince. lol

Interesting. I'll have to listen to that part of the song again soon. I love both songs!

I think of Prince when I hear Chris Whitley's "Big Sky Country."

I also hear Prince all over Mononeon's songs.

I like this question. For me, all songs sound one degree from Mr/Dr PRN. I especially think he could have covered Cold Desert by Kings of Leon quite soulfully.
