Annie Lennox in Detroit 4-2-2003 My God! What a show. It was perfect in every way. I'll try to keep it brief, or else I'd go on and on.
First off, a setlist of what she's been playing on this tour: Money Can't Buy It Legend In My Living Room Little Bird A Thousand Beautiful Things* No More "I Love You's" Walking On Broken Glass Pavement Cracks* Honestly* Cold Here Comes The Rain Again Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves Who's That Girl? You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart (acoustic) Don't Let It Bring You Down Wonderful* Bitter Pill* Would I Lie To You? Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) Missionary Man I Need A Man Why * new song The song selection rules! It's the perfect combination of classic Eurythmics hits, strong solo material, and amazing new songs. The performance was very simple. No costume changes. No props. No gimmicks. Just a tight band and wonderful execution. And then there's that voice. She might have the most effortless live singing voice I've ever heard. Don't get me wrong. She put her all into it. But it just seems so easy for her. So much power and emotion came out of her without even breaking a sweat. She didn't miss a note and her voice sounds better than ever at 48 years old. She seemed to be in a wonderful mood, smiling and enjoying herself the whole time. And it was very low-key and intimate, which I loved. The venue only holds 1500 people and our seats were great - about 12th row aisle. She can sell out arenas, so it was cool to see her in such a small setting. And she emphasized that this was her first ever solo tour and how she's been away for a long time. And it's good to have her back. She hasn't played this area in nearly 15 years (back before Eurythmics broke up) and I've been a fan for over a decade. Needless to say, I was eager to see her. And if the new songs are any indication, she might've created the best work of her 25 year career. After the show, she greeted a small gathering of fans and signed autographs. I know that she's a painfully shy person, but she seemed in high spirits and very gracious all night. I'm at an all time high with my love for her and I can't wait to see her tomorrow night. Wish us the best while in Toronto and I'm sure my brother or I will hit you with a report soon. And if you get a chance, go see this show! And check out the album 'Bare' coming in June. The early rumours are predicting a Grammy sweep next year. Here's the photo that will probably end up being the cover of the new album. Cool huh?

Thanks. I wish you could've gone too. You would've loved it. And you might even have some music to listen to that you're actually feeling right now. Maybe you can catch her when she comes around for the next leg of her tour.

Thank you TRON ~ I was DYING while she was in Detroit ~ to be so close and unable to attend made me crazy. I was a total BITCH at work all day. Today I was listening to her and had to pull into that little drive at Lakeport State Park ~ No More "I Love You's with all the trees down and the ice shimmering on everything as well as recent events was enough to push me over the edge. I cried for an hour ~ I'm so glad you got to see her ~ TWICE!!! What an incredible voice. DIVA? Oh yeah!!! Of the highest order.

Maybe you can see her on the next leg of the tour if there is one. This was an intimate show for the long-time fans, but she'll probably do a bigger scale tour after the album comes out in larger venues to accommodate everyone who wants to see her.
