George Michael's split w/Sony - how did it affect his music? .
Does anybody know how the split's legal details affected his output? Not talking about the quality of his music or his personal depression.
.
I recently found an article that vaguely described in a couple sentences, after he split he was only able to record and perform covers or release new material via compilations. Did he really split? Seems like material since the 90s is still on Sony.
. Over the years, I avoided the vaguely worded complaints in the media between GM and his label but I always wondered how it affected what I was most concerned about - his ability to record and deliver great music. He clearly seemed focused on recording (great) covers of some great pop tunes. Even though he was capable of writing some great material himself.
.
Any industry pros here know how does the legal fight translate into not being able to work?
