I agree. Dancing is the only thing that sorta saved the visual of it. Did you hear she actually fired her creative director who does all the dance presentations?

I love Mariah. I have most of her (classic) cds but I've long accepted that her voice is shot. IMO her backing track didn't start during emotions and she couldn't make it through the song live so she didn't sing at all. She starting and stopping because she sounded horrible and knew it.

I noticed that, during "Emotions",she actually started to sing the "feels like a dream" line, then she suddenly stopped.I wonder why she stopped.....was she alarmed at how her vocals sounded? hmmm

Mariah Carey's finger pointing has been just as ridiculous as the over reaction I've read here and at other sites.

Carey attempted to wing it and she got burned, oops. Embarrassing? Yes. A thorough sound check and possibly having a back-up plan... if something happened would've helped. Ol' girl has prolong the drama by throwing shade on DCP, not cool.

This generation of singers have been llip syncing in concerts for a minute now... people have paid hundreds and thousands of dollars for the pleasure. The shacking of heads, the gasp, the shock, the horror of it all... what's new? lol

When you speak of this generation of singers whom are you referring to? Mariah's contemporaries or those that came a decade or more later? If we're speaking of her contemporaries it's not entirely true. Here's a perfect example:

Chante Moore ain't lip syncing and would run circles around Mariah these days.

Kelly Price, Deborah Cox, Tamia, Lalah Hathaway aren't either.

I don't think anyone's shocked at the decline of Mariah Carey as many have observed post

Mimi. People are just shocked she was willing to make a mockery of herself on such a big

stage upon the eve of embarking on a tour with one of the greatest singers of all time. lol

That's a fair question but it's also fair to say that Dancers choreograph their routine and practice a million times before events. The Dancers could still do the routine without the music...Just like Mariah could have sang ANY of her songs acapella into a LIVE mic...At ANY given time she could have screamed into the Mic "Cut the Music! I'm gonna give it to them LIVE & RAW, I'm gonna show you why I'm The QUEEN of Pop tonight"...but she didn't, she gave up.....

Seasoned Singers & Dancers can wing-it without music...No matter how Seasoned you are fear is still a real thing...

Beyonce, Madonna, Janet Jackson ( the Queen ), 50Cents, Shakira. Lady Gaga, I could go on. Instead of posting A video of someone singing.. you've should take the time to search YouTube for those who... . wink The other thing, the Today Show, Good Morning America -Stage, most of the award shows (especially BET) quite of few artist don't sing live. I think they have those bloopers on YouTube as well... they use to have many more but those videos have been pulled.

I don't think what happened on New Years Eve will affect ticket sales for the Lionel/Mariah tour. We all know artists who have taken the stage for many years drunk or high, couldn't or under-performed and people continued to flock to the concerts.

As far as these New Years Eve television specials are concerned, I can't swear to watching one since 1984 but I thought those performances were always lip-synched? The one I watched on New Years Eve 1984 featured Chaka and Kool & the Gang. Both lip-synched. Chaka didn't have any choice. Her voice was shot. She did a little skit with Mickey Mouse and you could barely make out what she was saying her voice was in such bad shape. She was plagued with vocal issues around that time, all through the "I Feel For You" tour (great timing), and people didn't think she was going to bounce back.

So, as far as people trying to count Mimi out, saying her voice is gone, her career is over, etc., I wouldn't be so quick to declare that because I've heard the same shit about Chaka many, many times over the years and while she hasn't actively recorded in a couple of decades, she is still revered and, most of the time, the voice is still on point.

Exactly. If she had done that,I think people would have respected her more, and she wouldn't be getting all this negative media attention. The story would have been "Mariah is a real trooper.....she had technical difficulties onstage, but she STILL managed to do an amazing performance. She wasn't about to let her fans down on New Year's Eve".

Identity

No doubt Mariah has been stung by the widespread mockery. I place her in the same category as Britney Spears. The distinction being Britney's manager admits she doesn't sing live the ''entire time'' during her Las Vegas residency.

Do I detect a bit of shade here? lol Never said you were entirely wrong but I gave you examples of a few females that don't lip sync.

Of course Janet lip syncs. She got lazy as her career spanned and made dancing and choreography as much

the focus of her show as the music and it's no secret all these pop divas that you mentioned

have the same thing in common. Dancing and choreography is a big part of their shows and Janet admitted it's hard to keep up with the dancing and singing all the same. Not an excuse for me but that's the climate it became. I've often said I don't need to see Janet with 12 dancers on stage doing the same shit. lol I'm paying to see Janet perform. 2-4 dancers would do. Let's not assume Janet never sung live at all. I saw her first tour live and she performed Come Back To Me accapella with just the accoustic guitar and I was impressed. As the years went by she became lazy and did what she had to do to make the shows work for her. Basically she started doing a hybrid performance of lip syncing, dancing, and singing live.
