Longtime Janet fan here, since Good Times, and before she even starting recording.

I've always been in her corner, and supported her career, especially as a longtime dj.

She's had great songs, and even greater 12" singles / maxi-singles.

Janet has not been black-balled.

Careers fade. That's just what they do, even with the at-one-time most popular, multi-million selling, influential, pioneering artists.

So many of my personal beloved artists, have had a brief moment in popular fame, and then, not so much, as time goes by. I would absolutely love for Swing Out Sister to have garnered more popularity in the states, post-2000, but I've still supported them, seen them live here twice, and admire their constant chugging along with a quality release every few years.

I'm fine with that most people consider them a one-hit wonder. Fuck it.

Maybe that's a false comparison, so take that with a grain of salt.

Still, Janet didn't get blackballed. Most fans know this to be true, and are good with the great music she has put out, and some things were not so great.

There's no conspiracy, but I know my little shitty response will convince no one.

Exactly.Janet was not blackballed by the industry. There are other reasons for her declining career. She's a veteran artist now, which means no more radio airplay.Look at the current charts....how many 50-year old artists do you see having hit singles? The hit parade eventually ends for every major artist. Also, during the time that she was with Jermaine Dupri, there was a sense that her "sexpot" image was finally getting stale.Add to that, the constant cacellations and postponements of her tours during that period, and you have all the reasons why her career was having problems.

Sadly the music industry that a lot of us grew up with is long gone. I remember when older artist could get regular rotation on radio and video channels. Damn...really doesn't seem like that long ago when dames like Tuna Turner, Cher... or somebody like that would pop up and throw out a major hit.

I've seen no evidence of industry black balling Janet. They still kiss her ass as they have always done. When Unbreakable was released I saw nothing but glowing reviews and very positive coverage. There was no negativity brought up at all. The problem is that she didn't connect with people other than her fans. I could see that in her ticket sales for her tour. There were all kinds of lies and deflections about shows and the bottomline is that the tickets were not selling. The pregnancy was a perfect excuse to get out of an embarrassing situation- the Unbreakable tour and promotion was a failure despite the MEDIA being squarely behind Janet. FTR, I didn't read a single negative review from the media. So let's stop with the excuses as to why Janet is not as successful as she was. Other than her die hard fans, people just don't relate to her.

Very true, it seems that the tinfoil that covered her big brown boobie at the superbowl ended up with these vloggers. She went as far as the family name could carry her, even struck lucky with lightning-in-a-bottle producers who gave her a few classic albums, which I am sure is more than she could have ever anticipated given she can't sang good, compose or write a song, play an instrument or do anything at all. Janet carved out a fine legacy which is more than other untalented singers can say, she was just on a downward slide, flopping her titty out was just a last ditch attempt to stay sassy and move forward. All I remember from the 2000s was that song that sampled 'Ventura Highway' and the rest was and has been unmemorable, they were out of ideas for her and Brand Jan was past its expiry date, no shame in her career in the end.

music I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world. music

I think continuing to release stronger singles would have helped janet prior to superbowl

I agree she could have picked better singles.
