It's biggest crime?

It's Boring. Which is shocking considering this is Mariah Carey. The camp value and shade should be epic.

I'm officially a fallen lamb after this. I was a giant fan from the beginning. Since she appeared for the first time on Arsenio Hall and sang 'Vision of Love' so beautifully. I bought the cassette single. I bought every single and every album. I saw her live 5 times and even got to meet her in Las Vegas in 2000 during the Rainbow Tour. I was told she would only sign a glossy but I snuck in my 'Vision of Love' cassette single that I had all those years and told her I bought it the day it came out and that I loved her since. She signed it and gave me a hug. She didnt want anyone touching her and had a man push peoples hands off her if they tried so meant alot that she went for the hug (all I remember from that is how freckeled her chest was!!!) I defended her during the 'Glitter' years and got Through the rain with her and I will always have a place in my heart for Mimi but after this reality show and just her 'im a princess' behavior is just a joke anymore.

Reality shows are bad for everyone. Even if you are interesting they edit it to make everyone lookthe same and superficial.

I don't see how reality shows help an artist. They don't really make people buy your music or concert tickets.

If she wants people to see her offstage life, why doesn't she just film it herself and put in as an extra on a concert DVD.

and I was hoping this thread would be talking about why Mary Ann was projecting onto the creative director "get a little bit of opportunity and lost his mind" "he'll NEVER be the star" - meanwhile she is a backup singer making things stressful on Mariah by not bending or accepting apologies. eek

Ya know I have to disagree.

As a fan of hers since day one and then hardcore by the time Rainbow came out...I have to say there is not much available information on her life. When it actually comes down to her life story there is not much to go on. She doesnt have an autobiography and the books written on her give small bits and pieces of information so this is actually the most candid and in depth I have ever seen her.

here's all you need to know about her: she's an incredibly vain person who loves attention smile she is one of those "look at me! look at me!" type of celebrities. There was a time when the focus was on her amazing voice. Those days are over.Nowadays, her cleavage gets more attention than her music. The sad thing is,I think she's OK with that.

That's why it is working for me too. What most people SEE is a persona but has an air of mystery.

I follow her not because of her 'grandiose' persona but for her music...just as much as Prince, Madonna and Michael. All of them are crazy in their own right, but thats what makes them fun.

She is very honest and candid in her music. Songs like Camaflogue and Cry on her last album to Infinity are very personal and described her problems in her marriage to divorce. Like Cinny said, she may show off a persona especially today in comparison to when she was under everyones control in her early years (the Michael effect), but when you get down and listen to her records, especially Butterfly and on she tells quite the story of herself. her voice in my opinion is still there if you are actually listening to her records. It's not what it used to be of course (she chose not to have trachea surgery years ago) but in comparison to many.... Girl's got pipes.

Mariah has the most number ones for a woman and she is one of the biggest selling artist ever, WHY oh WHY is she doing a reality show??? disbelief Mariah was a very talented woman in her prime and has some classics (and no one can never take that away from her), however, she comes across as very narcisstic and self-absorbed.

I got sick to my stomach when I heard she was doing a reality show. All I could think of was "Being Bobby Brown" and what that did to Nippy's legacy. I doubt if Mimi will stoop that low but I'm really disappointed she decided to do this. I'm not watching. But, on a good note, it was announced today that she is going on tour with Lionel Ritchie next week. biggrin

I watched the second episode, and I have to say Mariah's voice is still on point nod ......I would have liked to see more of the concert, rather than petty squabblings over a tour bus between a background singer and a lead dancer......seriously shrug

I still like Mariah, she is very old school Divaesque but her whole "Daaahling" Schtick has worn thin. I much preferred the MC upto Butterfly although Butterfly album is arguably the best in her discography. Her outfits she wears now are like smh, because she doesn't need to go down the T&A route. That's for the bubblegum pop starlets who need skimpy outfits to get attention. Mariah Carey is underrated as a songwriter and whilst her vocals aren't 100% anymore she still is a top echelon level artist. What she desperately does need is an image makeover, wear flattering evening gowns and go the classy route. A big band/standards album showcasing her voice is what her manager should be pushing for. Or an album of soul/R&B covers minus guest features. Or even something like a return to the Vision of Love, Music Box days. Take it back to basics and stop being a caricature of herself. I've been a fan of Mariah since Vusion of Love too and she's somebody who I think have created a persona which has travelling in the slow lane and her career has arguably stalled since Rainbow. I think her fan base is incredibly loyal and they should get it across that whilst the glamorous @gimmick" is all well and good, first and foremost Mariah is a singer and songwriter. Dutch the glitter and do a real authentic record. A lot of MCs private life is smoke and mirrors so her writing about her life would make her a real person in many fans eyes again. Right now she's a cartoon of herself, whilst her Bianca character is funny, it's kinda worrying she goes into an alter ego mode."Mimi" seems another character she's made too, so if she cut these aspects out and was for real, I think we'd see a resurgence of her career. As a long time fan it's kinda surreal to see the Vision of Love seemingly mature grown folks music turn into music really which a younger artist should record like "Obsessed" and "Touch my Body". Mariah has wrote some great, inspiring songs in the past like "Hero" but 2016 MC and 1994 Mariah are like chalk and cheese. She has a great deal of talent, she just needs an image overhaul and to be coming from a real place. Otherwise I think her legacy will sadly be tarnished a bit because people will just see the Diva instead of a true talent she was and I think still is. I'm watching Mariah World but shows such as this do more harm than good. If she dropped the Mimi persona and it was the real Mariah it would help rebrand her for the better. But so far it's having the opposite affect. Back in say 1998 a MC show which have been like super cool to me but now I'm just watchong out of curiosity and loyalty.

Well....originally Whitney wasn't even supposed to be on the show, it was soley supposed to be Bobby's reality show, yet she interjected and wanted to be a part of it and the rest is history. She did what she wanted, when she wanted. If "Being Bobby Brown" tarnished Whitney's legacy, then it was her own fault.

Eh.

Any legacy she had was already tarnished by that point.

Yet people STILL love her and she has classics you can't take away. Go figure.

And by that time she had NO pretense. She might not have been america's sweetheart anymore (some would say a gross position) but she had humor.
