Did anyone watch the SWV Unsung?

Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

Alot of artists turn down TV One. For some, it's an ego thing. For others, committing to this show involves rehashing some memories they'd rather leave in the past. It took several tries for them to pull DJ Quik. He's a private dude who does feel that his work has been underappreciated, but he wasn't too keen on reaching back and revealing alot of intimate details about his life, along with the fact that he's still a very active musician.

They should do an episode on Ready For The World. Some others that come to mind: Cheryl Lynn,The Jets,Betty Davis (although there probably isn't enough footage on her),Mtume....and they should keep trying to convince Stephanie Mills to agree to it smile

I did. Thought it was pretty good. The group had huge success in their heyday before

internal problems tore them apart.

Stephanie Mills ain't "unsung"...

I kinda respect her stance... she refuses to sling mud, her own or anyone else.

Cheryl Lynn someone, should do a documentary because the Sista could blow and had this charisma / earthiness. Why the right material and/or produces could be found to harness her enormous talent is a mystery. disbelief

They're tryin to sell the show. Though, he may have a point as a male. I wouldn't call tue Righteous Bros straight R&B. Maybe Roy Head ... Gino Vannelli

biggrin I recall, some time ago,Stephanie appeared on one of our local R&B/quiet storm stations and during the interview, she was going on and on about "dating" Michael Jackson in the late 70s.I didn't know if she was serious or only joking, lol.Would be interesting to hear more from her on this topic.

actually,I think she has worked with some of the best producers and had some excellent singles:

"Shake It Up Tonight" produced by Ray Parker Jr. (1981)

"If This World Were Mine" produced by Luther Vandross (1982)

"Encore" produced by Jam and Lewis (1983)

and of course, her massive debut single "Got To Be Real" (1978) was produced by the guys in Toto.

This is why an Unsung episode is needed...so we can see what happened with her career, despite all those great hits.

Ever heard of Michael McDonald with the Doobie Brothers and solo.
You might as well call Daryl Hall solo as he was the primary voice for Hall
& Oates. Phil Collins. We've had this discussion a few years back or so when
Jon B mumbled something about him being more authentic than Robin Thicke.

Damn never knew Ray produced Shake It Up. That's my favorite by her. I like
that bassline.

I recall that but in that instance when some questioned MJ sexuality (1st allegation of molestation)... I thought Ms. Mills was standing up for MJ. In other words, when we dated... that's not the guy I knew or would assume what he was being accused of. Other than that, Mills has kept her mouth shut on what she knows, or did with whomever.

I hate to mention anyting about MJ on this board... some folks take to another level. lol lol lol

Those named didn't help her career much... lol Just because you noted in being a producer/ song writer doesn't necessarily mean your talents lends itself with a particular sing or band. Maybe the Disco tag, stunted Lynn's career.

Fat Joe, ‘90s girl group SWV and soul/funk pioneer James Brown are among the artists comprising the new lineup for TV One’s longest-running show, Unsung. The acclaimed R&B, soul and hip-hop music series will premiere its 10th season on Jan. 4 (8 p.m. ET).

Rounding out Unsung’s forthcoming slate will be episodes profiling fellow artists Jon B., Lenny Williams, Case, Dave Hollister and After 7. The series is narrated by actor Gary Anthony Williams.

[Edited 12/7/16 12:31pm]

Finally will be nice to hear JON B story. He has been in the game for a good 21 years and still is making music to this day. Even though it is good, not really anyone is feeling him like that. I am glad his story is about to be told. Couldnt be any happoer.

Jon B. I like his music and his voice. I'll watch that one.

I agree with above post on James Brown....REALLY?
