Rolling Stone gives new White Stripes album, 5 stars.

The first 5 star review of the year, and it is my fav rock band, the White Stripes. Hope it is as good as Rolling Stone says. Remember, way back in the day when Prince used to get 5 star reviews? Well--one. lol

I havent been trusting Rolling Stone lately, they've been dropping alot of 5 stars lately. There are some major classic and very important albums that dont even have 5 stars.

I am curious to hear this new white stripes album because Ive heard nothing but good things about it.

But there was alot of buzz over the last Beck album, and it didnt do anything for me

I've been a fan of The White Stripes since they first started out and their new album is excellent. Thing is Rolling Stone are jumping on the bandwagon. Lets face it if it wasn't for the sake of being trendy the The White Stripes would never have appeared in Rolling Stone, there are loads of great bands out there who are completely ignored and the reason is because of the publications like RS who suck corporate cock. A lot of the music press just want a piece of the pie now to sell their magazines. They care little about the artist. The Stripes themselves know it, thats why they play the music they do as it's timeless. It's simply a matter of the music press convincing themselves the time is right. If the band are around by album number five they will probably be slated for being dinosaurs when the next trend hits the street. Back to the new album though, it is excellent and just really dirty like the first two Led Zeppelin albums but even more stripped down.

As for 5 stars though, that is pushing it a little. Id give it a solid 4 rating though. The songwriting is improving every album.

i like the white stripes to a certain extent - but the hype is annoying. trust RS to jump on the bandwagon.

I bought it and its stronger than their first. I think I would give it 4.5. The 1st song, "7 Nation Army" rocks hard (I was gald when I found it was the 1st single as well). I also like "Cold, Cold Night" were Meg sings. The album is really good overall with stronger and bigger songs but I really thought that the last song was werid even by White Stripes standards. Guess they had to throw everyone off.

Stronger than their first? you consider their first album to be the best? IMO De Stijl and White Blood Cells are far better and Elephant at least as good.

Opps... I knew I rushed that.

I meant to say that "Elephant" stronger than "White Blood Cells" (to my ears, anyway). I bought "De Stijl" but really didn't listen to it much. I don't have their 1st album (which is self titled right?), who is it?

I wouldn't trust any review that Rolling Stone gives anymore. In fact, I haven't paid the least bit of attention to this crappy mag for at least 8-10 years.

I have to pick this up... I just got the first album on the used rack at Strawberries and it's decent. There are about 4 songs that I like a lot on there. From what I'm hearing, this new one kicks ass...

Yeah Conan genuinely loves the band and the genre in particular. I remember when Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes were on there and he was really starstruck. Im glad The White Stripes are getting the success they deserve.
