The odd part about Hall & Oates is how much they are loved by fans and fellow artists alike, yet the only people who hate them are the big music crtitics/snobs at Rolling Stone and other publications. They claim their music sucks, yet looking at all of the so-called cool artists who showed up for "Live at Daryl's House", it's obvious to me the amount of respect they have in the industry.

the coolest change in pop music history, if ya ask me.

You forgot about the bad ass beat they got on there too. It kinda reminds me of "Why Can't We Live Together" by Timmy Thomas

Oh, I didn't forget! Everything about that song is fucking killer!

They made quintessential songs of the 1970's and 1980's, and transitioned their sound from the 70's to the 80's more smoothly and successfully than most if not all of their peers in pop music. I love them.

I like so many of their songs,but "Sara Smile" remains my favorite it's such a special song,from a special era (1976)...brings back alot of childhood memories from that time

So glad that this thread was started! They are great - I've seen them together and solo many times and they are amazing. 2nd concert ever attended was Big Bam Boom tour. Love dreamtime.

yes, agreed!! Live at Daryl's House is a great example of all the artists that admire or where influenced by H&O.

For something that's so often associated with the "easy-listening" stuff from the 80s, I find their music from that era rather tastefully produced too. The drum machines are pretty raw-sounding and hard-hitting and the synths don't have the type of "Final Countdown" or "Jump" type of "cheesiness to the max" factor to them. The production on many of their 80s songs actually remind me of Prince quite a bit.

I agree.I also think that much of their 80s music has aged really well.

Love them! Been faves of mine for years, awesome tunes that still sound wonderful to this day, timeless.
