I have to say this, the AMAs were alot better in the 80s, when Prince dominated the American Music Awards in 1985

Explain what? I watched the AMAs in 1985.

Someone want to explain what Ariana Grande has done to win Artist of the Year? I like her but she won over Rihanna and Bieber, two bigger named acts who were active than her? Her latest album is still fairly new, having been dropped in August so I doubt it was because of that.

Overall, the nominations for Artist of the Year were weak (no Drake, no Beyonce, no Adele) but Ariana winning is puzzling.

I'm guessing that due to Prince's passing ,many music fans went out and bought the purple rain album

I think it's amazing that it was up for an award after 30 years. It show how great and powerful the soundtrack is and the fans made it happen.

It's awesome that PR won but let's be honest, if Prince were still with us, the album wouldn't even have been nominated.

What is the point of even stating such a thing. The record has been a good seller for years without Prince's death in fact it is not even his best album.

I think it was nominated because the movie was re-released...still, doesnt really make sense to me.
