I think part of the problem with how Beyonce is discussed, though not so much on this particular thread, is that either people say that she is a no-talent that has had all her success somehow handed to her vs. she is the best in her generation. Interestingly, it seems that more people subscribe to the first point of view than the latter, but rarely do you hear non-polarized viewpoints. I am not a fan of Bey but not a hater either. Her sucess has been impressive. I also appreciate her risky move of getting less pop and commercial sounding on her past 2 albums, embracing her blackness in a way she didn't before. On the other hand, i think the critics have given her too much credit for this, as I don't think either album warranted album of the year status.

Yea there is a double standard when it comes to Beyonce. She is definitly a token but even sometimes critics rank her even higher than her White counterparts. She is more criticially acclaim imo than Taylor and even Justin who imo are more commercially successful than her. It is the most bizarre thing I have ever seen. I think there is an industry elite agenda going which is why she is being so excessively pushed as this "great talent". It is propaganda and no its not right because the establishment is snubbing other artists in the process. I understand this is a phenomenon that has always been a issue but it feels Beyonce is being pushed as the greatest artist ever and of all time. She is more critically acclaimed than Michael, Prince, Marvin and other legends and I find that very questionable which is why I am very passionate about it. I love music and artists and I believe everyone should have their equal recognition and treatment.

I don't exactly go around calling myself a fan of hers though I liked her work ethic, I like some of her work and have been to a couple shows. I know what she's been doing for a long time and felt she was arrogant for years, starting around the 4 era though I ended up liking the album and new york concert. I feel she paid for awards in response to not getting recognized all the time sometimes eg. some backlash during B'day where success was deserved, but it backfired anyways cause she hasn't had a number 1 song since sasha fierce. I was upset she bought artist of the milennium, and was saying from then I'll bet nobody wanted to present that joke to her. I would have been proud of her for artist of the decade cause she deserved it for that decade, not for the previous or current nanosecond of this milennium.
I appreciate lemonade's concept and what it set out to do, but she's just been pissing me off all year. I don't know if the bee and jay things are true or not, but if it's a publicity stunt I feel she's making a mockery of people who go through real shit, and I've met tons. Also, I believe Kanye, fully. I don't feel he has a reason to lie about Beyonce refusing to perform unless she got an award. And these Grammy nods seal the deal, they can't a problem with Canada and UK's music success, you could not get away from beiber and drake, non fans were playing them nonstop all year round and they shattered records with their singles, NO NOMINATIONS???? I think that's even worse than a massive superstar getting nominations and not a single win if you ask me. I don't know if Jay manages Rihanna anymore or has close ties or what, but that woman was robbed and it wouldn't surprise me if Beyonce had something to do with it. Everyone knew Rhi was setting out to make serious music and made a great effort. Watch her sell out her own sister next year, who in fact, made B'day what it was with her writing, Countdown... Kanye always meant something to me musically more than Beyonce since his first 2 albums, and god forbid if something happens, the Carters will be the first people I blame after the Kardashians.
as for liking beyonce cause of loving mj, that shit's out the window, she's a megalomaniac who was obssessed with his power and status and imitated it to attain the same recognition. [Edited 12/7/16 12:39pm]

I have to definitely agree with you that everyone else deserves their equal recognition. I like Beyoncé and agree that she is very successful, but as a fan of her early solo career, I loved her songs on her albums, Dangerously in Love, DejaVu, I Am Sasha Fierce, and 4, but I don't like any of her current music in this decade, I have just lost interest in her. Would definitely not see her live again. I feel she peaked onstage in her tours during B'Day, Sasha Fierce and 4 concerts in NYC. Her performances were average after that on the tours from what I saw online and redundant, she's only good for award show ones now. [Edited 12/7/16 12:47pm]

. I wish Beyonce would go on hiatus. She's too saturated in the industry all the time. It's just too much. Like, give someone else a chance to shine, ya know? . And, another thing -- she is always trying to be inventive and make her new album better than her last and her performances are getting way over the top. It just looks like she is desperate and trying too hard, imo.

. I agree. I think Beyonce was appealing when she was with DC and then the beginning of her solo career, but like journalism16 said, lately her music, performances and image have taken a big turn--the symbolism and the angry/violent videos; that's where I draw the line. Personally, I think JayZ has a bad influence on her and she went to the dark side, LOL

Thanks for your fair and objective critique, I respect that! I loved her when she was a part of Destiny's Child, and like I said, I am a fan of her early solo career only, I am not a fan of any of her music in this decade. But I think the main reason I have lost interest in her, is not because she may win lots of awards, but the main reason is because you always hear about her in the news, whether about possible award wins, new albums which come out virtually every year now, and I feel like I can't get away from her, because she is all I hear about, whether on the Internet or on t.v., and I am tired of hearing about her, and everyone else the media mentions virtually everyday. I think Beyonce should take a looooog break (if she wishes) so she can spend time with her family and loved ones. But hopefully, someday, there will come a time where she won't be mentioned in the media so much. Erin Smith

There is an agenda going on in the industry with regard to Beyonce. The industry and media is shoving her down the masses faces and its purposeful. Its propaganda. And clover I wish you post on this side more!

^ Thanks Journal! I am glad some of us still dare to question the system!
Thank you for all your comments on this topic. I really appreciate your rational and comments. The only thing I would disagree with is the last comment. Beyonce does seem to be obsessed with being likened MJ and that legendary status. However, she has not achieved that and will never achieve that. Beyonce's "success" is an illusion and based on propaganda that is created by industry and media, if you look at her statistics, its quite clear, the general public does not consider her to be this great great artist and talent. There is a disconnect between the way she is marketed compared to how people geniunely feel about her. [Edited 12/9/16 11:05am]

Yeah I'm aware she's not big on his level at all, I meant she imitates his things and talks of him because she's hungry for the same power and admiration, but she's not fooling me and most people. I'm sure she was a fan growing up, but it's pretty clear she was more like a STUDENT for her own financial gain and status. She's big for a few minutes when she launches something and then isn't really on heavy rotation again, that's how it is these days. Again, I admire she's trying to address inequalities musically though I wonder how genuine she is a lot of times, but at the expense of paying off people to not get nominations so she can attain status is LOW. Definitly agree with everything you said 100% Her MJ references don't seem geniune and feels more like a selfish PR stunt to just be associated with him for her own personal gain. The difference is that Michael Jackson is geniunely loved all over the world, its a type of love that can't be replicated and it definitly can't be faked. Beyonces brand is not built on that and doesn't have the same universal reach or appeal. Her brand is being pushed purposely despite the lack of interest from public. [Edited 12/9/16 11:25am]

She tries so hard to be liked and from a marketing standpoint knows how to win points to keep her name in the press though she's become boring. Ironic how she addresses those below her and yet is on top of the hierarchy (fame) and pays her dues at the end and is self-serving like most of them. In fact , if she talks well of anybody, it's just to promote herself or her labelmates to generate revenue for them, cause this industry is 90% business and 10% music and everyone knows that.

. Yea, something is going on. Same thing with Mariah. All of a sudden, she's getting all this publicity. Maybe the record companies/PR/managers push these media outlets to talk about them, I'm sure it works as $$$$ is the prime motivator in this world. LOL . I don't really go into the non-Prince threads very much, but I do, on occasion.

And suddenly diddy and the crew, like where did they suddenly come from? I went to the tour and it was dope, but few months later all this shit happening with Kanye, and other acts are coming out of the woodwork popping up like surprises, both older acts and BeYAWNce. Not to sound paranoid but some shady business is taking place behind the scenes and it involves money.

Mariah's all over the place because she has a reality show to push. Diddy and crew may be trying to drum up more interest in more tour dates possibly. Kanye on the other hand, he might possibly be mentally ill. What he's said during his rants could ALL BE TRUE, but his delivery (time/place) makes me think something may be wrong. A grown man shouldn't want anyone to know that he cares that Jay-Z doesn't give a damn about him. Or that he's pressed about Beyoncé winning some award (bought or not, he's been in the industry long enough to know the game). I believe he calls himself putting them on blast, but guess what? They seem unbothered (publically) and people outside their industry called him crazy. Those on the inside already know what's going on and are just patiently waiting for Bey's reign to end. sidebar: Michael's legacy is in no way threatened by Beyoncé. sidebar 2. I actually enjoyed Lemonade. I think it was one of Bey's best albums. Not nearly as good as DIL though.

How is Beyonce's saturation her fault? Her last two album cycles have been suprise releases followed by a tour and very little by the way of promo for those albums?
I've never EVER heard of trying to grow as an artist and producing a better product as a negative.

Oh we def don't think Beyonce is in any shape or form a threat to the TITAN and true King MJ. We just see through the bullshit with how the industry is trying to replace him for her in this propaganda but normal people see through this crap. They ALWAYS do that with Black legends. They are so quick to replace them but the issue with Beyonce is that its all illusion based and she has no concrete receipts to back up the propaganda. MJ has always been a threat to the establishment because of his reach, power and influence and they still hate him for it till this day because DESPITE all the shit they tried to do to him, he has proven that his legacy, impact, influence and talent is UNMATCHED and still reasonates TODAY. The industry needs to stop with this bullshit because that is exactly what it is. [Edited 12/9/16 14:28pm]

. Beyonce wants to be at the top, all the time. She loves the attention. I worry about people like that, because they are going to have serious problems when they get older and all that beauty, fame and money is dwindling away. Madonna and Gaga are the same way, although Madonna really has nothing to prove to anyone anymore. Beyonce is just too much for me. It's just my personal opinion.

Beyonce is a very weak woman who has been managed by men all her life, that is why she needs attention.Madonna likes attention too but Madonna does it to piss off people and she doesn't care what people thinks about her. When Beyonce falls from grace , its going to come hard and I am not going to feel sorry for her one bit. She needs to a wake up call and to humble herself.

. I agree. And, whatever happened to her being a christian? . Prince overcame all that bullshit, because he was "humble". . Fame just goes to some people's heads and they aren't even the same person anymore; it's like they've become a caricture of themselves.

Prince was humble but Prince was REAL, geniune, had dignity, intergrity etc. He didn't fake the funk. You either liked him or his music or you didnt. He didn't care what people thought about him. Beyonce lives a facade public life that is very different from her private life. She is very image conscious and seems to care about what people think about her. She is fake and fame seems to be more important to her than self-respect, intergrity and dignity which takes more courage and heart to have than fame IMO. All the money in the world, fame, beauty etc cannot buy those things. People like Prince and MJ are heroes because they had those things, because they DARED to challenge a system that marginalized Black artists, because they DARED to be themselves DESPITE backlash, because they DARED to stand up against INJUSTICE, because they DARED to risk their reputation and fame FOR OTHERS. ANYBODY can be famous BUT everybody doesn't have those unique and special traits that really impact the world and people in a profound way.
