This week's Billboard Top 40 makes me want to weep for our country Since people kept mentioning Beyonce, Rihanna, and Drake dominating the charts, I thought I'd check out what's allgegedly hot on the charts right now, and what I saw made me want to cry, if not puke.

Paul McCartney used the Rae Sremmurd song for the mannequin challenge and uploaded a video doing it on his site and Youtube channel. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I don't even have to click the PLAY button. The video thumbnails tell me everything I need to know. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I seriously did not even know they still had charts, what is the point?? You can move on a chart without selling a single or record, streaming? get the fuck out of here with this shit. Whats next tracking what we think people might buy and that counting as a sale. Once You tube and views and fucking clicks got in the mix I was like CHECK PLEASE with this BS. There is some bad shit in the top 40 for sure. But Starboy & 24K magic are in the top 10 and they're 2 of the best singles of 2016. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

As Spike Lee would say - "Coonery Buffoonery". . Retarded shit hop sounds recorded by Thugs and other degenerates aimed at people with an IQ of 64 and either in jail or waiting to go in. It proves that people buying the latest hits are just mouth breeders and proof the human race will be like animals in 100 years. . Maybe Trump will clean up some of the music with low maoral and social standards clogging the charts, after all these songs (Loosely called that, as its is swearing to a drum machine beat with looped in 80s sounds) glamourise, drugs, crime and calling women bitches. Maybe that is one thing Trump coluld do is lift the tone of certain musical genres that add nothing to the arts of civilisation and refinement. Musics that should be regulated and banned. . All shit hop of every stripe except if its 100% positive and avoids any swearing, sex, materialistic references, dumb repetition, shout outs, samples, yeah yeah and yo yo, crime, feuds, guns, drug use or consumption. . Sexified r and B like Chris Brown and Rhiana, Beyonce, guys with names like Marquise Jones who are naked and singing about freakin yo booty. . Any form of Satanic, death, thrash and hardcore metal that has drug references, racism and anti social lyrics. . Shitty kiddy pop and boy band/girl band music unless it has a socially redeeming message . Personality artists like Justin Bieber/Soulja Boy, Katy Perry/ Lady Gaga, Miley Cyprus who are known for their shenanigans rather than music. . Any musical act that produces low quality and simplistic music aimed at morons, that does not educate and enlighten the people. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Relax, do you remember you like Prince, right? how enlighten is something like Irresistible Bitch, Little Red Corvette, Sexy MF, Come, It. Artists aren't her to give us moral or spiritual instruction, it's not their job. Bieber, Rihanna, Beyoncé and Gaga do not sing just about sex, they sing about other subjects just as Prince did; and Prince 70% of his music is about sex.

^^ Those are some really interesting interviews, cheers for that.
And yeah, I see what you mean, OP. Lyrics have certainly gone backwards that's for sure, never thought I'd say that since first hearing Lil Wayne. I agree with the observation on coonery as well, these loot-the-store beats used to be really niche i.e. purely for dope dealers, but they seem to have become entrenched in the mainstream. This phase of stank booty gorilla noise isn't targeting low-socioeconomic blacks either, this music is for fringe collegegoers being diverse and teenage whitegirls who caption their snapchats with the n-word. As long as they have something that keeps the masses aggressive and unsettled, the labels will keep leaving butter biscuits on the studio floor.

Been saying it for the longest.....
It's all over......this thing is all over...
It stopped being about the music a very long time ago....
But the Pop Ascension led to the detioration we have witnessed.
This didn't happen by accident
The well has run dry........

The forefathers who would be at the center of creating Rap/Hip-Hop
They issued out a warning in 1978 because they knew the impact of the golden nugget in whichy they had crafted
They said if the music were to ever be commercialized, it would be destroyed
Fast forward 38 years later.........

Topo 40 has always been mostly mediocre with a few good songs but most songs just being catchy songs aimed at kids. Nothing wrong with that, but when people think about previous years or decades on Top 40, they think about their favorites and not all the other crap.I remember around 1970 in Middle School, a year that is often put as an important period in music, most of us were already labeling much of top 40 as being bubbble gum. In 1975, I remember that me and some friends went through the entire top 40 and most of us found only two or three songs we liked. While I don't thingk this is a strong period for the Top 40, there still tends to be a few songs that are good. Some things never change.

Good point, I was born in 1976 and feel the same, good music stopped being made after 1996 with the exception of a few artists like Prince and Michael Jackson. . But I honestly think the average person who listens to this crap was more likely to be born in 2002 or 2004 rather than 1998 Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
