The Jacksons Best Trilogy

To me these three songs, are the three best songs from The Jacksons and among the best songs in Michael Jackson carreer for that matter. Beautiful soul ballads, in my mind, if you want to understand a little bit, what Michael Jackson was really about, you just have to listen to them. These masterpieces are the most personal lyrics Michael ever wrote. Unfortunately, Bless His Soul was like a prophesy for things to come in the future. So, what do you think about this trilogy. By the way, is such a shame these songs are totally unknown.

I'd add Time Waits For No One. Fits perfectly with those 3.
PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever

Great album, the ballads are great......but I prefer the uptempo stuff eg. Things I Do For You, Blame It On The Boogie and All Night Dancing music

His most authentic album is destiny if you ask me. Musically, vocally, lyrically, emotionally.

I think some of Michael's best songwriting was with the Jacksons and I agree OP those songs were very personal and very creatively written. I do think a lot of Michael's solo work was just as personal as well but yes I agree those Jackson albums are gems that are criminally overlooked. I think Triumph and Destiny are R&B gems and classics. I personally love all their albums though.

Agreed! Seems like many who only listen to mainstream ((Thriller and onward) totally forget or don't even know about, Michael's work with his brothers, which I think was just as good as his solo work.

Thanks for posting the vids too, awesome stuff! biggrin thumbs up!

Those are just from one album though. He was particularly fond of "Be Not Always" in the autobiography sounds like.

Thats What you Get For being Polite always seemed autobiographical to me like he was actually talking about himself.

I don't. uptempo songs in this album are to die for, but the ballads to me is what make the album.

Jack still sits all alone
He lives the world that is his own
He's lost in thought of who to be
I wish to god that he would see just love
Give him love

cry touched Oh Michael you are always loved

Thank you! I agree, Michael's voice in this song is just incredible and the brothers add a gossamer silky backing vocal.

.

I would also put Dreamer also off the Jacksons and Even Though you're gone from Goin Places in my line up of Jackson era ballads.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

What do you expect? Michael was only 17 when he wrote those songs and Randy was only 14 or 15. Song writing takes time and those songs are catchy and they sound sincere.

.

Michael's vocals on Show you the way to go, I mean wow such a progression from songs like Forever came today and Dancing machine. His adult baritone really comes through on that song.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

There seems to be a debate going on YT that this footage here is the Destiny Concert or not. Can anyone confirm this? If so, I hope one day it will be available on dvd/blu-ray, cause this footage is off the chain music boogie

Definitely Destiny era, as they sing Destiny and they have the Peacock behind them, when they started the Peacock Productions in 1978. But I suspect this may actually be the 1978 tour as they are not singing Blame it on the Boogie or shake your body down to the ground, usually at a live show you play your latest hits. There is no Triumph songs or even Off the wall songs on the set.

.

There was a big tour in 1978 and early 1979 and this may be it. It is definitely not Triumph or later as the brothers still have afros and are wearing 70s disco flares. Michael had a purge in August 1979 where the afros were toned down to kiss curls and the flares were tapered in. Triumph tour the afros are gone and the pants are 80s drainpipe width rather than 70s hippy flares.

.

Before Shake your body broke in March 1979, the Jacksons were actually faltering a bit and even Michael, of course when that was released it changed and with Off the Wall, suddenly Michale was the huge star. Here the show is noce as it is still very much the "family act" of the early Jacksons era.

.
