In your mind anyone who points out things you'd rather ignore can just be dismissed with the magic word... hater.
I'm just giving a heads up to newer forum members that you have an unhealthy dislike for Janet. Everything you post about her is negative and often unbalanced. I recall that you once posted your delight that she is no longer popular after SB as you believed she never deserved her success - someone who has those opinions definitely is a Janet hater hence you fit that description perfectly. I can't comprehend why someone takes such an interest in someone they have little respect for. You wouldn't catch me posting something about Eminem unless I was trolling, but that ain't my style.
Errr, I don't take such an interest. I comment on her about once every three or four years. The only time I ever hear of her is when I come onto this forum. I was a casual fan back in the 90s, then I woke up around about the end of the decade. If not for the org I would know nothing about her after the Superbowl.
And for the record, I am by far the most objective commentator about her on these threads. The rest of you guys are so far gone that you're even denying the evidence of your own eyes and pretending that she's not wearing Muslim attire in that picture.
Well if you look at my first post on the topic you'd see I reluctantly accept that she seems to have embraced her husband's reglion/ culture.
The frequency of your posts on Janet are irrelevant - they are always hateful -just like the one you posted above. Patronising and arrogant.
It's funny that you say you never hear of her outside this forum which is obviously said to downplay her relevance in music and popular culture; yet when she releases new music, announces her pregnancy or walks around with a hooded outfit on it trends worldwide on twitter (yes even in the UK), is a hot topic on daytime tv and tabloid newspapers.
So unless you've been living in a bubble since 2004 then you're talking bull.
I never heard radio 1 or 1xtra play Prince's noughties material on influential shows like Annie Mac but I did hear Janet plenty of times. [Edited 11/13/16 3:59am] |

LOL, I hate to break this to you but there are some of us who don't read tabloid newspapers or watch daytime talk shows. I'm sorry if reality hurts but I have almost never heard Janet Jackson's name mentioned anywhere in the last ten years unless it was connected to her brother or something I found out about here on the org. This is just a fact.
The only other thing I remember was a four part series on BBC4 which focused on black American artists from the 80s which had one episode on Janet. But of those four episodes the only one that was written about in the press, repeated on different channels and shown in a popular time slot was the one on Prince. The other three episodes were on Lionel Richie, Chuck D and Janet. They were shown at 10 o' clock on BBC4. Some of our American friends may not be aware but BBC4 has hardly any viewers.
I don't particularly like pointing out these things but since I'm being attacked here then I really don't have a choice. You're missing the point - trashy tabloids are read by more people than broadsheets and are designed to get more hits from stories on popular celebrities like Jolie, Carey and Janet. Whether you read these is irrelevant - many people do, hence people are still insterested in her. Stop using the argument that MJ is the reason- he had nothing to do with her last record nor did he put the baby in her. It's a tired argument from people who aren't well informed. I'm not concerned that you don't like Janet - I live in London and unfortunately some people (including friends) feel the same as you. What I dislike is your sense of superiority on your opinions because you listen to musicians who strum guitars. You dismiss people who listen to pop/dance music are silly, thick and irrational. You're a musical snob. And as long as you continue to display this I will keep reminding you. |

No, people are not still interested in her. Obviously if a celebrity suddenly turns Muslim or something like that it will be a news story in the tabloids. People will be interested to see them in the hijab or whatever, particularly since Islam is a hot topic at the moment. Also, pics of pregnant celebrities are always in demand. Remember, there is a whole industry now devoted to celebrity tittle tattle and she will always be a celebrity so she'll have a little space there, but that's all. I could name at least fifty other celebrities who people are more interested in.
As for that last album of hers how many copies did it sell? I never heard a single song from it. Never heard anyone mention it outside of this website.
And I don't only respect artists who strum guitars. I love pop music. I love soul music. It just so happens that I see Janet as a manufactured artist. You may think it makes me a snob to speak in such ways but it doesn't. It just makes me aware. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

You're repeating yourself now - which is getting a little tiring and clearly demonstrates you don't have much of an argument here. Just because you haven't heard the album or singles on the radio no one else has? Does what you have experienced represent every music listener? Get off your high horse. |

I'm willing to bet a lot of money that my experience on this matter is more common than yours. You may know all the lyrics to her last album by heart but most people never even knew it was out. You know this and it's why you refused to say how many copies it sold. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

I see Mr Patronsing has made a bitchy appearance again.
I don't know how may copies it sold because that's not as much of an intrest to me as it is to you - I'm sure your sassy ass can do a quick search on wiki to check.
But I do know it went #1 in the states and Canada and top 20 in the U.K. Which is nice, she must have a few fans left. [Edited 11/13/16 7:24am] |

Good one.
I agree. People forget that Janet is over 50, therefore she comes from another era with regard to female empowerment. Not to mention that her family dynamic most certainly did not lend itself to that idea.
I never felt that she was being anything other than a entertainer.
While she certainly is not as submissive as her mom's generation, folks need to remember that many, many women adopt their husband's religion and need to stop acting like there is something wrong with her choice.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise. |
