Depeche Mode are like the Metallica of their own genre, synthpop. The biggest band of the genre, almost synonymous with the genre itself in many people's minds. I think they'd deserve to get in more than any other act from this bunch and I'm not even really a fan.
... then again, inducting them before Kraftwerk might feel a bit weird. Kraftwerk are like the Chuck Berry of rhythmic, electronic music. [Edited 10/20/16 11:42am]

I understand what you mean, I just don't think that's it. Hell, his first year for induction should have been the first year Prince was nominated. The year before those sketches. Some people just never get nominated. Ohio Players, Barry White, Donny Hathaway, ect. The Moody Blues are not yet in. [Edited 10/20/16 14:36pm] PRINCE: Always and Forever

[Edited 10/21/16 11:48am] I like your last statement. But how do some artist not even get a nomination. Barry White Kool & the Gang Ohio Players Commodores At their peak they were battling the top artist in their respective genres. Hell, even topping them for a time. And these were not just fly by the night artist. They had staying power (pun) and topped the pop charts. Why have the above been neglected? PRINCE: Always and Forever

Cool list but I am always wondering why Pat Benatar keeps getting overlooked! She, along with some others listed above, have never been nominated and that is crying shame! What is the Hall of Fame waiting for? smh Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above~

[Edited 10/20/16 11:42am] Depeche Mode is more widely known and imo has better songs. I'd even go on to say Enjoy The Silence and Personal Jesus are probably two of the best songs ever written and recorded; it's why they're both still heavily covered to this day. Just because you came first doesn't mean you're better edit. [Edited 10/22/16 12:41pm]

Politics and racism.
Whitney Houston is the biggest selling Black female artist of all time and she still has never been nominated.
I agree with you though. Those artists including Rick James deserves to be nominated and inducted.

I don't see WHitney getting in, The same as I don't see Cher or Barbra Streisand getting in. Johnny Mathis isn't in. They probably look at Whitney as a more pop run of the mill singer when she is straight up R&B. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Not true. According to the RIAA, Rhianna holds that title with 230 million records sold. #2 is Mariah with 200 million. #3 is Nippy with 200 million.

This break down includes streams and digital downloads which RIAA recently included because nobody is not selling albums and I personally think this is stupid because streaming is not the same as actually buying an album or single. Additionally, I think its disrespectful to include an artist's streams with artists who have actually sold physical albums, records and c.ds.
15000 streams I believe equals one record sold
Whitney has sold over 200 million copies in pure physical album sells. Whitney IS the biggest selling Black female pop star of all time.
I am sorry but I don't view streaming or digital downloads the same as actually buying an album because its not
Going by this "new method", Rihanna would be the 8th biggest selling artist of all time and that is false because her album sells are very low and its not fair to include streams or digital downloads with artists who have actually sold millions of copies in physical albums and records.
Going by this new method, Rihanna has a shot at eventually surpassing Michael and the Beatles with.... streams. There should be a seperate charting for streaming. It should not be viewed similiarly to records sold because...its not.
I don't care what the new method states, I look at physical albums or records sold.

Technically Mariah Carey is multiracial/mixed. She is not 100% Black.
But people use the one drop of Black rule with her. However, when comparing her to other female artists who are fully Black, Whitney is technically the best selling.

AGREE!
Streaming is not the same as buying a physical album at the store or even buying a physical album online. With this stupid new streaming method, today's artists will eventually "outsell" artists who have actually sold physical records!!!

I agree. Surely a record SALE should be an actual purchase? Buying an album in a store or online, even by download, is a sale. If you just go onto Spotify or whatever and listen to an album, you haven't bought it so it should not be considered a sale.

Barry White may be the only artist here you could associated with disco. There were nothing disco about the others. You can tell the difference between a Sylvester disco record and a Ohio Players funker like Fopp. If these musicians and critics lump disco and funk into the same category well.it needs to be some new people that head the hall. Society uses the one drop rule with anyone who has black blood running thru their veins. Not just her. The same with Drake. Drake is considered a black artist although he is half white. I'm multiracial and the about same complexion as Mariah and Drake. But, the United States govenment and the rest of the world considers us all as black. The music industry is no different. Either you're black or you're not. I have never read anything in Billboard magazine that said Joe Blow is the first multi-racial artist to accomplish this or that. And again the RIAA says Rhianna is the best selling black female artist of all time. They don't take into consideration the mixture of her ethnic heritage. To them, she is black, period.
