Dude had monster talent, a great ear, and given your description of his hometown, was determined to stand out from that ole' crowd. Good on him! Condolences to all his friends and family. I enjoy his music.

It takes a really small minded person to start some MJ vs Prince bs in a thread honoring Rod Temperton's work. Can you get back on topic please or exit the thread. Exactly, but that are Prince fans. Petty, small minded and ignorant people, who seldomly let a situation to slag off Mj go. [Edited 10/5/16 13:20pm]

- - Classic! - - On another note: This little groove was one of my favorites from him. I don't remember how popular it was but I loved it. I don't have one favorite from Rod. The synth has some of his classic signatures. Especially that dark, eerie sound. Not to mention the message still rings true today.... - - [Edited 10/5/16 13:45pm]

[Edited 10/5/16 13:20pm] --- MJ is on a tape wishing death on Prince for whatever fuckwad reason we don't know. We know from Latoya that Prince visited Katherine all the time after Mike died and was super nice to her. Contrast that with wishing death on someone or trashing Prince in front of Babyface and LA Reid. Like I said the truth hurts.

interestingly, the song "Mystery",which Rod Temperton wrote (it appears on Anita Baker's Rapture album),was originally offered to Michael Jackson during the Thriller sessions.

I still remember the video of it playing constantly on MTV.

I'm so saddened by Rod's death. So many of us have grown up listening to his music.
Such a genius songwriter. Terribly sad news. I just HATE 2016. And hell yeah I agree that Temperton deserves a sticky! He was brilliant. [Edited 10/5/16 15:04pm] "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

Actually Manhattan Transfer did this before Anita Baker.
Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

Quincy Jones Remembers Rod: "Not just for Michael [Jackson], but for James Ingram, Patti Austin, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock and a host of others," he adds. "His creativity just never stopped. He had an excellent compositional instinct and wrote great music because he had absorbed it to such an extent that it just came straight out of him as if it were second nature."

Before I knew who Rod Temperton was, I always wondered why Spice of Life by Manhattan Transfer sounded so much like Baby Be Mine, and why I loved it so much. I soon found out why; RIP.

Wow. I'm speechless and that's the honest truth. I've always known about the Heatwave and MJJ stuff and that was enough for eternal praise and admiration, but I DIDN'T know about the George Benson stuff (Broadway and Give Me The Night?!?!?), Quincy Jones, Brothers Johnson, Patti Austin, James Ingram, and Michael McDonald joints.
This dude was the motherfuckin' man! Talk about talent...
