Dude had monster talent, a great ear, and given your description of his hometown, was determined to stand out from that ole' crowd. Good on him! Condolences to all his friends and family. I enjoy his music.

After all these years, "The Groove Line" still kicks butt. Rod was a songwriting machine who had a way with a melody that was darn near unmatched by the competition.

Nah Rod was five times the writer that MJ was. I don't even think Mike's songs are even covered by other artist. In fact Prince was a better songwriter than Mike along with loads of other people.

It takes a really small minded person to start some MJ vs Prince bs in a thread honoring Rod Temperton's work. Can you get back on topic please or exit the thread.

The truth is hard and the last time I looked this is Prince.org Oh topic miser I am not going anywhere.

On another note: This little groove was one of my favorites from him. I don't remember how popular it was but I loved it. I don't have one favorite from Rod. The synth has some of his classic signatures. Especially that dark, eerie sound. Not to mention the message still rings true today....

--- MJ is on a tape wishing death on Prince for whatever fuckwad reason we don't know. We know from Latoya that Prince visited Katherine all the time after Mike died and was super nice to her. Contrast that with wishing death on someone or trashing Prince in front of Babyface and LA Reid. Like I said the truth hurts.

I'm so saddened by Rod's death. So many of us have grown up listening to his music.

Such a genius songwriter.

Terribly sad news.

I just HATE 2016.

And hell yeah I agree that Temperton deserves a sticky!

He was brilliant.

Quincy Jones Remembers Rod:

Quincy Jones, the producer on Michael Jackson's Off the Wall and Thriller, has paid tribute to Rod Temperton, the songwriter behind the King of Pop hits "Thriller," "Off the Wall," "Rock With You" and more. Temperton died last week in London following a short battle with cancer.

''There are simply no words to express how heavy my heart is at the news of the passing of my friend, brother and colleague Rod Temperton," Jones tells Rolling Stone. "It all starts with the song, and Rod was one of my go-to songwriters. He was one of the best, period.

"Not just for Michael [Jackson], but for James Ingram, Patti Austin, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock and a host of others," he adds. "His creativity just never stopped. He had an excellent compositional instinct and wrote great music because he had absorbed it to such an extent that it just came straight out of him as if it were second nature."

Temperton also penned hits for Michael McDonald, George Benson and his own funk outfit Heatwave. But it's his contribution to Thriller, the best-selling album of all time, that Jones remembers most about the songwriter.

"He wrote three songs for Thriller…'Baby Be Mine,' 'The Lady in My Life' and 'Thriller'; and wrote the Vincent Price intro to 'Thriller' in the car on the way from the airport to the studio," Jones added. "To say his talent was insane is an understatement. He was the best friend and brother you could ever work with, and I will forever treasure our friendship and all those decades together in the studio."
