WHY does this song remind me of Ice Cube so much?????

I LOVE the song but that autotune tho *cringe*

Please don't tell me you don't recognize a ZAPP shout-out when you hear one?!?

That's what I'm saying. Do you not listen to and love "Computer Love", "Dance Floor", or even "More Bounce To The Ounce"??????. Roger made that talkbox popular, and even folks like Bon Jovi used it at some point.

Roger Troutman and Zapp made that talk box popular, and even folks like Bon Jovi used it at some point.

And it might remind one of Ice Cube because it sounds like west coast hip hop that samples late 70s and early 80s funk records (a la Dre & Tupac "California Love", which Roger is on and used different Roger samples, etc). It speaks to Ice Cube's "Check Yo Self" which samples Grandmaster Flash's "The Message".

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Its a good track but, once again, it's a game of spot the ingredients. I give it a month before Grandmaster Flash is on the credits in some way.

Man, I gotta say I love this! It is indeed very much early 80's funk/boogie inspired, but that is my alltime favorite genre and this track is very well produced. This one is even better than Uptown Funk IMO, which was fun too but more directly derivative than this one.

I am just glad some popular artist is trying to push this oldskool sound back into mainstream pop music. Let's hope many other artist will follow!

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

For me, Bruno is an artist that has really done his homework.

He is a true entertainer who really wants to be the next great one and I feel he is on his way.

I really like the new song and the tributes to the 80's it pays.

If you haven't seen his Billie Jean (Smells Like Team Spirit) mashup on youtube, you should.

I agree. I think he really really works hard to make great music and really strives to be creative in his performances . He is not pretentious or like any of the pop stars now that boasts about being great. He lets his music and talent speak for itself and people can see that he is great. Time will tell if he will be remembered as one of the greats but he definitly does a great job in reminding people of a certain time period in music and entertainment that people obviously miss and want to see return.

Byron "Mr Talkbox" Chambers is the talkboxer on the track. Byron's done some albums of his own which I recommend checking out and he's influenced by the late, great Roger Troutman. As a huge Roger and Zapp fan hearing the talkbox/Ohio Funk sound become mainstream again is a cool thing. I'm hoping Bruno does give Roger & co a shoutout as Uptown Funk came and went without him or Mark Ronson mentioning Zapp when the guitar lick & sound was very Roger-esque. Although artists doing the whole Zapp sound reminds me of something that Roger said in "I Play the Talkbox"

"Y'all know that grabbin' a piece of a Zapp is the thing to do,

Grab on, grab on, but you say thank you"

Its good that Bruno's showing his hand in terms of his musical influences but you gotta pay homage to the legends before you. I mean look at the legacy of Marvin, Ed Sheeran, Pharrell & Robin Thicke didn't honor his influence on their music and they got hit in the pocket. I also think "24K" has a hint of One Way's "Cutie Pie" about it too. Puffy got a ton of heat for sampling pop songs for his Bad Boy family artists and what Ed, Pharrell et al are doing is essentially what Puff was doing but they being more stealth about it. I mean if you listen to the song structure of "Thinkin Out Loud" and it's progressions you can't miss "Lets Get It On". When I first heard "Blurred Lines" I automatically thought that's Marvin's "Got to give it up". But being on the down low about it doesn't sit well with me since you're not sampling, its essentially interpolation and if you aren't crediting your source(s) then thats not being creative at all in my opinion. But in Bruno's case he is essentially creating his own version(s) of the whole 80's funk sound and borrowing elements from different places so you can hear elements of One Way, Roger & Zapp of course, I also hear Cameo in 24K Magic too. So really what Bruno's made is a homage to that sound and that's cool, at least he isn't trying to stealthy remake "More Bounce 2 The Ounce" without crediting Roger & Zapp.

I knew you come gurl, can wait for that Bruno thread when this drops razz

Hey girl! I'm late in coming here to give my opinion of the song...been busy over at LSA razz

But anyways this song is a serious bop! dancing jig The music and production is top-notch. The lyrics and the music video are silly and over-the-top but I think that's Bruno being humorous and poking fun at the cliches in rap music videos. I gotta confess tho, between Uptown Funk and this song, I think Uptown Funk is better, but I've had 24K Magic on repeat over the weekend--it's very infectious and FUN.

Once again Bruno proves that he's got a great ear for music and he knows how to create a great pop song that resonates well with the masses. I am very much looking forward to his new album which will be released Nov. 18th. I cant wait to see what direction he's going in musically now. Even though people are saying 24K Magic is Uptown Funk 2.0, I expect to see artistic growth on this next album. Bruno has always displayed his ability to do diverse styles of music on his albums, and this one shouldnt be any different.

THIS SATURDAY HE WILL BE THE MUSICAL GUEST ON SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!!! So that means we will get a KILLER live performance of 24K Magic plus the debut of a new song! It's about to be LIT y'all!!! bananadance dancing jig bananadance dancing jig bananadance dancing jig bananadance dancing jig bananadance dancing jig

Also, Bruno just turned 31 Oct. 8th--Nice way to celebrate his birthday with a number one song! thumbs up!

Why Bruno likes to dress like a middle aged dad who lives in Miami and is trying to be hip, I'll never know lol

Check out this mess he wore to his sister's baby shower shake

Image result for bruno mars presley baby shower

He dresses more like a dad then his own dad does (who is standing right next to him lol)

Of course it's derivative, but that's what makes it good, IMO. He gets right that early 80s sound I love and grew up on. It's a fun song, nothing more, nothing less.

Right he touched it with "Treasure"...went all out with "Uptown Funk" and now swimming in it with "24K". I just hope he doesnt lose his original sound although I wouldnt care if he had four or five tracks like this on it lol.
