Been waiting for someone to mention the new Metallica. It sounds pretty good. It just sounds a little too familiar though. Definitely looking forward to the new album. It comes out November 18th i think.
i heard this and thought great a nice short single. then when the album info dropped it was oh dear. 10 songs spread over 80 odd minutes again on 2 cd's this time. hope it'd not overly long like Death Magnetic

Here's another song from the new Metallica. I like it.. Kirk Hammett though?? Dude must be the most lazy guitarist there is. I've seen videos of him playing other guitarists songs, so i know he can play. He just doesn't have any imagination or feeling in his creations. Such a waste of talent.

...because it would be totally unlike james and lars to stifle other band members' creative input...*cough* jason newsted's buried bass *cough*...
anyway, kirk appears to be having a good time with the new material; and it does seem pretty good so far.
You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I've been a Metallica fan since Kill Em All, and i do like Kirk Hammet. IMO though, since the Black Album, Kirk's guitar playing hasn't had all that much variation. I do understand that it's his job to come up with solos that best fit the songs mood or feeling, but IMO, him constantly relying on that wah wah sound doesn't really help a song sound better. IDK. After all these years i guess it just sound too familiar.
I do agree that Lars and James(especially) are control freaks(as it relates to Metallica). It would probably do Metallica(as a whole) good to be a little more flexible in what they let Kirk play. Its messed up to think that after all these years Kirk is still somewhat of a hired gun. I think that has caused him to become somewhat complacent. I think i would be good for him to do a solo album. It could get the creative juices flowing again. I'd definitely buy it.
Anyway, as long as kirk(and the other guys) are having a good time, i guess that's all that really matters(in the big picture).
I do like what I've heard so far from the new album. It somewhat reminds me of their Garage Days stuff. That with a pinch of Kill Em All, and The Black Album, thrown in for good measure.
