It will take 300 million Spotify streams to get Nelly out of debt. #SaveNelly

Nelly is in debt. A large debt. TMZ reported Sunday the rapper owes a federal lien amount of $2,412,283 and is trying to work things out with the IRS. He also owes the state of Missouri $149,511.

It is not unusual for celebrities to fall in debt. With a ton of money comes a ton of spending and a ton of responsibility. Despite his success with the 2000 release Country Grammar and its recent diamond certification, the artist still could use some help from his fans to get the ball rolling on paying everything off.

According to Spotify, artists receive anywhere between $0.006 and $0.0084 per stream. And when you do the math—and that's exactly what Spin has done—that’s 287,176,547 to 402,880,500 streams before Nelly has everything settled.

Although this may sound like a lot, for a fan it doesn’t take much to help. It only takes a few seconds to find a Nelly playlist and let it jam out while you’re driving, cooking, or whatever else may be on your agenda.

Everyone has at least one Nelly hit that they can still go hard to, so why not help the cause? This is a great way to give back to an artist who has given up great music.

Oh shit, its getting hot in here.... lol lol

Seriously though. I feel for the dude but not enough to repurchase any of his music. Streaming royalties aside. I'm sure Nelly has made millions and millions of dollars off the Country Grammar and Nellyville albums. I know its been a long time since those albums were released, but still...Dude probably should have been more responsible with his millions.

Just recently i was checking out this interview with Sir Mix-a-Lot, where he was talking about all the money he's made off of Baby Got Back. He was basically saying that he's made so much money off just that one song, let alone his first three albums or so, where even today it affords him a lavish lifestyle.

I know that each artist is different but Baby Got Back came out in what, 1993 or so? And the songs Country Grammar and Hot in Herre, the early 2000's? Still to this day all three of those songs are constantly played on the radio, used in promotional spots, etc.. So like i said, even though i do feel for Nelly, its his own fault that he's in the situation that he's in. I never understood how a person could make millions and millions of dollars and end up squandering it or f*****g up by not paying taxes. The tax man don't mess around. They will get that ass.

^^I agree. Many of these artists never learned how to budget and save money. They get a few hit singles and they start buying mansions and expensive cars.It never occurs to them that, someday, the hits will stop coming. They never prepare themselves for that.

I have no sympathy for these people who strike lucky, earn a fortune doing something they love and then piss it all away because they're too stupid to realise that spending more than you're earning is a bad idea. Especially minimally talented people like Nelly and 50 Cent.

Nelly must have been making millions and millions MORE than that for the government to even be asking for that amount. That lien might be the reason his album sales were requested to be recounted.
