THE REVISIT: BILAL’S ‘1ST BORN SECOND’

This is where it all began, and folks are STILL reeling over 1st Born Second. This article says it ALL. Bottom line: Bilal, arguably the voice of a generation, and fresh off his stint as guest lead vocalist for The Revolution, is more relevant than ever.

"Bilal has been heralded for lending his vocals to Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly in 2015, but the closing track on First Born Second is more relevant today, 15 years later, than ever. Speaking to the status of Black Americans in this country, Bilal digs into a rawness that only he can deliver. The psychedelic instrumentation literally emulates the state of insanity many of us are finding ourselves in after months of seeing ourselves killed by police on loop. I couldn’t think of a better way to end this incredible album.

Bilal’s career over the last 15 years has taken him all over the world and his fans across the musical landscape. We’ve loved. We’ve been fed up. We’ve been feenin’. We’ve felt loss. Bilal’s music was there for all of it and served as the perfect score. Read More...

Thanks for posting this.

He was awesome at the BET Awards tribute to Prince.

Did he also release a rendition of "Adore" on an album?

If so, please let us know on what album because it would be great to check out.

Hopefully, Bilal will perform at the memorial tribute because we need talented artists like him to express their love for Prince at the upcoming tributes.

I don't think he has done a cover of "Adore," at least, not that I know of. I would love to hear him sing it, though, and the memorial tribute would be the perfect place to unveil his interpretation of one of Prince's most beloved ballads. I would also love to hear him, or somebody, sing "Free." That would be a perfect choice for P's tribute concert. I can't be there, but I sure hope it is available for pay-per-view.

1BS holds up very, very well. He's been an adventurous, fearless artist and his voice is one of the best in the business. I hope he continues to release music at his current clip.

nod I still rock 1st Born Second from time to time. Have you heard his latest album, "In Another Life" that was released last summer? If not, you got to check it out. It may not be as strong as 1st Born Second, but it surely is better than most of what's currently on the pop tart and R&B charts.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

ILA is a good album. Though I'm not in love with his work, Adrian Younge's a talented producer, and they work well together. My favorite track from that album is "I Really Don't Care."

I remember buying this cd n the cashier was making fun o his name. I was like stfu n gimme my record lol. Most of it is good, it's a bit 2 long n 2 many tracks, but I especially enjoy Sometimes touched n Soul Sista. The last track creeps me out whenever I hear it boxed.

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

My ONLY complaint about this album is that Slyde was edited. I had the advance (Napster!!!) and the live outro was my favorite part of the whole project.
